jspence1124 3 Posted November 21, 2015 Hello everyone! I'm scheduled for Surgery on Dec 9 and starting the pre-op liquid diet in Dec 2. I am TERRIFIED that I will not find anything that doesn't taste awful and I won't get in my Protein requirements or will be too tempted to eat something non-liquid. I'm also worried I'll be so tired and won't want to go to work every day. Anyone else working up until the day of surgery?
miiasan 370 Posted November 21, 2015 Hi - and welcome! I am retired, so... but I didn't slow down my routine or any projects I had. If I remember correcly the 2nd and 3rd day of the pre-op was the worst for me - I was on liquids only - but by the 4th day I was doing fine. I drank Premier Protein shakes. They are low carb, 30 grams of Protein per 11 ounces - 160 calories, I think. They actually taste pretty good. They come in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry cream. You can find them at costco or Sams at pretty good prices. I had a problem with them after surgery for awhile - my body didn't like whey protein - but now that I am a few more weeks out I can drink them once in a while with no problems. There are many other Protein Shakes and supplements out there - one I used after surgery was unflavored unjury Protein powder. It is easy to put in stuff like Soup - you don't really taste it and it is about 21 grams of protein per scoop. I am sure other folks will have more suggestions. Some folks get samples of different varieties to try and choose that way... Good luck with the pre-op diet and your surgery!
spainb@att.net 0 Posted November 21, 2015 Where did you find the unjury? I am doing my pre-surgery fast as well. I am in week one, so I get one small meal a day. I will be fasting 100% liquid through Thanksgiving, and I'm not looking forward to that. I'd be grateful for any recommendations anyone has.

miiasan 370 Posted November 22, 2015 I got the Unjury through my doctors office. I think you can order it through this websites store. Also@@onia you will find that slim fast. And special k have too many carbs and not enough Protein for both the pre op and after surgery. You Nutritionist should be Abe to give you good suggestions. I will tell you from experience that you will want shakes with a high amount of protein. After surgery it will be hard to get your protein in
jspence1124 3 Posted November 22, 2015 I just ordered Syntrax Nectar from Amazon. I'm hoping it is as good as everyone says. It had a high amount of Protein and zero carbs, so if I can tolerate the taste I should be ok.
Djmohr 6,965 Posted November 22, 2015 If I had to do this all over again I would definitely use Premier Protein ready made shakes. They are delicious and packed with Protein. Even 14 months later I drink one a day.
citygirl1962 50 Posted November 22, 2015 I never see Pure Protein products mentioned here. Is there some reason not to use that brand?
Dub 9,922 Posted November 22, 2015 I never see Pure Protein products mentioned here. Is there some reason not to use that brand? Their pre-mixed shakes sure worked good for me during pre-op diet. 23 grams of Protein and they are mixed really thick and keep you from being hungry. I did best when I drank 4 per day.....spaced out every few hours with tons of Water in between. Post op I did better with the Premier Protein pre-mixed as they were thinner and easy to get down and the 30 grams of protein was great. I typically drank 3 per day. I used Chike coffee powders, too, along with some unjury powder.....just mixed them with ice and Water.< /p>
bugsy72 117 Posted November 22, 2015 I just started my pre-surgery diet today and I survived! I am not hungry. I am able to use five carnation instant no sugar added packets a day, with a serving of specific fruit (1/2 c) and a serving of specific veggies (1/2 c cooked; 1 c raw).So I'm still able to chew and have "real food," however limited. I think it will be doable. I feel fine. I AM running to the bathroom more often though! I bought unjury Protein power (unflavored) too, from my bariatric office. I like that it can be added to any liquid and get some of the Protein in for the day. I will start using that after surgery. Thanks for the Premier Protein tip, too.
