Opinion on pecans- nuts

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering what is everyone's opinion on nuts in general. I'm not sure if I should be eating them frequently since they have lots of fat even though is good fat????

Forgot to mention that I'm 3 months post-op.

I usually stuck with the lower fat nuts....almonds, cashews, peanuts. Be mindful of the portion sizes, though, because they can add up calorie wise. Are you cleared for nuts yet?

Also, I've never paid much attention to fat as a rule. I always follow a Paleo or Atkins type diet post op :)

I started on nuts at about four months post-op. I gravitate toward the more healthful nuts such as cashews, walnuts, almonds. I definitely limit the portion size and chew them really well.

I agree with everyone else. Nuts are a great source of Protein and healthy fats. You just have to watch portions. And, since the texture is so rough, make sure you are cleared for nuts (and seeds) before trying them.

I weigh nuts by the gram and keep the portions small. They are very easy to over-eat on. I don't worry about the fat content, but the calories add up in a hurry!

Thanks everyone for your input, @@Babbs I was cleared at my 2 months post-op. My post-op was broken down in 4 phases and last phase ended at 2 months. My husband loves nuts and always buys like 2 lbs of the mixed nuts with no salt and I'm afraid to over eat them so I been trying not to consume them yet, however, I do eat them once in a while.

I need to work on chewing my food more that has been my biggest challenge, although I measure everything I eat. I eat between 750 to 850 calories daily with 90 to 100 grams of Protein.

@@Bufflehead what is the portion in grams that you eat? My doctors office gave me a book and it says: for fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium, aim for less thank 5% of daily value. Not sure how much will that be.

I often have an ounce of nuts as an afternoon snack or post workout recovery food. I stick to dry roasted or raw almonds, pistachios, or cashews. I've had macadamia nuts once since surgery. They were a gift from a friend who went to Hawaii. Talk this over with your nutritionist. She can give you a guideline of which ones are okay and in what amounts. I can't keep them in the house though. I go to the store and buy the single serving packs whenever I want them because If I have them, I will eat them all.

@bledgirl this is how I feel about them being in the house. I'm afraid I will start eating more than just a portion, but the key is to weigh it and do not go for seconds. ????

If it's a temptation for you I would leave them alone or ask hubby to not bring them in the house

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
