Wondering what I did!

Recommended Posts

Not sure I made the right choice. I'm 3days out. Feel like I'm not doing it right. I sip on Water, Protein Drinks. Little bites of pudding, Greek yogurt and cream of wheat. I have to do the until I go back on Dec 4th for a following up. Any one else struggling.

Why do you think you're not doing it right? If you're following your surgeon's instructions, you're doing it right!

Almost everyone has gone through the "What have I done??" phase early out. It sucks at first. Hell, it sucks the first like 6 weeks.

Keep doing what you need to do. No, you won't get all your fluids and Protein in at first. As a matter of fact, FLUIDS are most important right now. Do the very best you can to stay hydrated. People don't land in the hospital because they haven't gotten enough Protein. It's ALWAYS because they are dehydrated.

Just follow your doctors orders, be kind to yourself, and heal. You're going to do just fine :)

Guess I just still at the second thought stage. Just thinking of all the foods I love can't have anymore.

Yes. I'm following his instructions. They said, I was fine to stage 2. At times still doing Just liquids.

Remember, just because you CAN have it, doesn't mean you HAVE to have it. During my soft foods stage, sometimes I just had liquid. My NUT stressed that each phase included everything in the phase before it, except the five days after surgery. For my surgeon, that five day period is cranberry juice, white grape juice, or apple juice diluted with Water by half - that's the fluids portion, 60 ounces per day of it. After that, they don't want you on the juice. My surgeon doesn't like Protein drinks.

The first few weeks are honestly just about surviving & getting enough fluids in. I think most people have a touch of buyers remorse in that first week. I remember how difficult it was emotionally to be going through sugar, carb & caffeine withdrawal all at once, plus losing my tried & true coping mechanism of eating my feelings away. It is s rough time! I promise though, it gets way better. Every day you will heal a little more. The scale will start really loving & you will see the payout of your hard work

I was definitely not on mushy foods like cream of wheat for 3 weeks vs three days. I just alternated shots of Vitamin Water and Premier Protein every 8 minutes till I hit the mark. I was able to get in 64-75 oz a day that way. And yes fluids are most important. Good luck!

It will get better...it really will! Take it slow. Get your Protein in. Listen to your body. Rest - often :)

Believe it or not, you will get to eat food again. You will get to eat food you live again. The food you love may not be what you used to love, but you won't miss it.

Just focus on healing for now. Make sure you get in all of your Protein and fluids and follow your surgeon's instructions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
