Anyone else nervous?

Recommended Posts

I found out I have the surgery on Dec 28th. I have to say I am very nervous about complications. I'm excited about losing weight and turning my life into a healthy one. Just worrying. Anyone else feel this way?

I'm in the same boat! So worried if I'm making the right decision. I really can't afford complications since I'm cash pay! I see my pics and I'm convinced I need this but I also have a relative living with severe problems from his GB 10 years ago. That is frightening! My date is the 16th.

I went through a phase over the summer where I was terrified. I feel good now. Not sure what did it other than the realization returning to me that I need to do this to stay alive -- going on the same is its own risk as well. In the end, I have to put faith somewhere -- no one has absolute control over life :)

I'm absolutely nervous about the procedure. I am not good with surgery at all. And I wake up hysterically crying and disoriented afterwords and I just hate it. Nervous bordering on terror. I still have some time to get it in my pea-brain to relax. Good luck to you!

My surgery is scheduled the same day! (Dec. 28th)

I have to say, the closer it gets, the more nervous I become. My Preop weight as of right now is 264.

Im not so much nervous about the surgery as I am about the 2 week preop liquid diet and making sure I dont pick up smoking again. Quitting smoking so far has been the HARDEST.

As for the pre op, Ive already stocked my cabinets and fridge with broths, carnation Protein shakes and lots of sf Jello.

Im prepared, haha. Im just not ready if that makes sense. Change is a difficult process, but I know this one will be one of the best changes Ive ever made.

I have not stocked up on anything yet lol you are ahead of the game :) I have not stopped smoking either.... I know that's hard and I'm afraid I won't be able to stop. Worse habit ever!! I'm at 256 now. I can't wait to be under 200lbs. I'm 31 and have been over 200lbs since high school. I'm not too nervous anymore thank goodness

My surgery is one week from today and the nerves have kicked in big time! But we can do this!!! I just keep reminding myself that one year from now, the holidays will be even more joyous because I will be much healthier. Wishing you all the best!

I think it's normal to be worried a little but we have to get out of our heads otherwise we will drive ourselves crazy. Give your fears to God and leave it there, what will be will be, worrying won't change anything. Good luck to everyone.

I think being nervous is absolutely the norm. I was terrified, then sooo ready, then scared, then over excited, but in the pre-op room getting my iv's put in, I balled like a baby. I was so nervous-was I making the right decision? What if something goes wrong? But then I thought about what HAVING the surgery meant. A healthier, thinner, hopefully happier me! The tears stopped and the next thing I knew, I was being wheeled up to a room from recovery:-) I was just sleeved 12/08/15, and I won't lie, there have been times I thought "what did I do to myself?", but I don't regret it for a second.

Do you mind me asking what the complications are?

Wow thanks for your story. I am feeling the exact way you felt. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 14, 2016. I am on the liquid shakes now. I am starting to doubt myself if this is the right thing for me. I would love to hear how you are doing now that it has been a few weeks. I really hope you are doing well.

I was having some issues with vomiting, but have just been limiting my foods to a few selections and playing with different seasonings/spices to change up flavors. I am doing much better, am able to get all of my fluids in, and working on Protein. My surgeon is happy with where I'm at and says everyone moves forward at their own pace, as long as I'm progressing. I have a lot of energy already and am not sore at all. The best change: I am off of cholesterol meds, 2 blood pressure meds, and on less than half of the insulin as before the surgery(I'm a type-1 diabetic on an insulin pump, I will never be off of insulin completely)!!! That is all within 3 weeks. Not to mention I'm down 20.6 pounds. Even with the vomiting(which I believe was a combo of eating certain foods too soon and eating at too fast a pace), I don't regret it for a second! I know it's scary and it's totally acceptable to feel that way, but you have a TON of support on this site and there will always be someone to talk to. I don't know how I would've gotten through without everyone's support/advice on here!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
