I have started the process and have done my tests, chest X-ray, ultrasound, blood work etc. I am meeting with my pcp today and worried she won't approve surgery. I am borderline bmi 38-40. I have only gone to her a couple times in the last couple years. Do most approve or do you think I will have trouble? I am so worried because everything else is going good and my insurance will pay with the approval.

I really hope you don't have any problems. Do you have have any co-morbid conditions? I have posted this a few times and have seen a few other similar posts but i had problems with my PCP. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. Even with my co-morbid conditions, my PCP refused to supervises me. So,. I told him if he wasn't willing to do it, I would find someone who would, so that's what I did.

There are many PCP's who are not educated about weight loss surgery and therefore are reluctant to do the supervision.. With respect to my PCP, I think he even had the mentality I was taking the easy way out which is absurd.

Good Luck and please post to let us know how things went.

P.S. If your PCP is reluctant, tell them to call and talk to the surgeon.

The only thing I need from my pcp is the letter of medical necessity for my insurance. I'm being supervised by the nutritionist in my Surgeon office and I love her she rocks.

You know, I was really worried my primary would be against me having the surgery because we're both the same age and I thought she would judge me for it and she was actually very supportive. She just asked which surgery I was looking in to and she said "Oh that's great I went to a seminar on that this year!" and wrote my letter on the spot. They may surprise you!

Even if they're against weight loss surgery in general, their only job in this process (if you're doing your supervised diet, if you have one, through your surgeons office) is to state that you meet the medical necessity guidelines. If they're unwilling to do that then I'm sure your surgeon can point you in the right direction.

Thank you. I'm trying to stay positive. I go at 3 today so we will see. I have been worried for two weeks since the receptionist gave me an attitude about only being their a couple times in the last few years. Fingers crossed, I'll let you know????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
