Sleeve_Sistah85 193 Posted November 21, 2015 Just had mine last Saturday and yes they knock you out. My throat was sore a few hours later.
Sleeve_Sistah85 193 Posted November 21, 2015 My surgeon told me he is doing mine just before the sleeve surgery. Has anyone had it done then? What are they looking for? What happens if they find something will the sleeve be canceled? I see my surgeon for the last of 6 visits this Monday. Maybe I should ask him for more info but I thought I would ask you all first. My doc also did a biopsy with my endoscopy...the endoscopy is to check for any abnormalities in your upper GI tract. The actual biopsy checks for bacterial infections that could be problematic after surgery. I was told it takes 2 weeks for the results of the biopsy to come back. wannaBthinsoon 1,634 Posted November 21, 2015 I was supposed to be in a "twilight" sleep, but I remember it, as if I was wide awake. the thing they put in my mouth, the spray they sprayed in the back of my throat to deaden it, the scope they told me to swallow. It was over in a few seconds. I got up, got dressed and went shopping. No issues. But I was not asleep.
Amy Wolfe 49 Posted November 21, 2015 Not at all. I was scared too. I even wlke up before they were finished and it wasn't even that bad being awake. Like the last 2 mins or so. Piece of cake and im a whimp.
ssflbelle 829 Posted November 22, 2015 My surgeon is doing mine the day before my surgery, I'm very glad to hear I won't be awake for it! I was/am very nervous about it. I hope they always knock people out for it now rather than have me awake... @@ssflbelle I would guess they're looking to make sure you don;t have anything in your stomach/digestive tract that would cause problems on surgery day or otherwise make you unsuitable to be operated on. If they find something, better for them to know then to not. It may lead to surgery being canceled (as could unusual results in any pre-op test), but better that then an emergency situation on the day. I do have an umbilical hernia but the Dr wants to leave it in. Hopefully I do not have any bacterial infection.
Bayougrl 23 Posted November 23, 2015 Had EGD this morning. It was a breeze and a fantastic nap! No sore throat.
mokt 58 Posted November 24, 2015 I was not put to sleep for mine, but was merely sedated, however I am in Canada and perhaps the protocols for this procedure are different here. Needless to say it wasn't at all painful and I just felt groggy and tired the rest of the day and my husband had to drive me home. I think it only took about 20 mins from beginning to end. Try not to worry too much and hope it goes well!
kdelrosso 124 Posted November 24, 2015 You are in a twilight type sedation. No pain at all and you won't remember any of it. I don't know if you have ever had a colonoscopy but the sedation is similar to that. During my endoscopy my doctor needed to biopsy a piece of my esophagus and I didn't even have pain after that. Relax and enjoy the sedation
Halfagain 68 Posted November 25, 2015 Had my upper endoscopy done today. I was out for the whole thing. The doctor found a lot of bile backed up in my stomach. I had no idea that was going on. My gallbladder was removed in 1981 (I was 20 at the time). Anyway sounds like all else was fairly normal. Only pain is a very sore throat, but gargle with warm salt Water helps. Peppermint tea is nice and soothing too.
