1. Doc said I'll be back to work in 3 days post-op. Is that true? I'd want 5 days....

2. Will I be able to swallow my thyroid meds post-op? You'll probably be advised to crush them for some time period after surgery. Mine was two weeks. After that I could swallow them with some Water.

3. Anyone try it-works wraps for loose skin? Haven't tried.

4. Any recommendations for firming lotions, etc to help with skin elasticity while rapidly losing? Haven't tried anything other staying well hydrated throughout each day.

5. How soon until I'm back in the gym? (Rowing machine, lunges, squats, light weights, etc)? My surgeon was daily liberal with this....saying he wasn't sending us home from the hospital with restrictions and to proceed as you'd like, just don't overdo things.

Good question about the thyroid meds, I hadn't even thought of that! I have been trying to get all my Vitamins and Protein either picked up or ordered online so all my stuff is here waiting for me when I get home!

I'm curious about the thyroid meds.. . I did hear, sleeve patients absorb meds better. So if one is on a lot of meds prior to the surgery, they'll benefit better with the gastric sleeve.

I had mine Tuesday. I am pretty tough, 2 c sections and 2 major knee surgeries. The first two days were pretty rough due to fever. The third day was much better. Now it's friday and it's even better. Still taking pain meds and have them for another week. For that reason alone, I can't go back, cannot drive. But I think you need more time to heal and relax. If I HAD to go back Monday I could, but I am taking all of next week too to let my body heal.

My email is midlandrhonda@gmail if you want to email.

Good to know rking. I am having my surgery on 12/4 and I plan to be back in the office on 12/10 but only because that is our company Christmas party so I won't really be doing anything. The day will consist of 1/2 a day or work, off to the restaurant for the party and then we are dismissed right after that for the rest of the day. I think I can handle 1/2 a day

3 days seems a bit soon....

I was given my medications whole in the hospital. Never told to crush them.

Loose skin happens. Not a whole lot you can do to prevent it unfortunately. May be able to tighten a little with exercise, but some areas may be too far gone for even that. Same with hair loss. You can try all the tricks of the trade, and you may minimize it, but you won't ever flat out prevent it.

Your doctor will clear you for the more strenuous exercise other than walking. Usually around 6 weeks out.

Great questions! I am pre-op for December 19 and I had the same questions, as I have a very strenuous job!

Thanks!

@@amandasue

welcome, welcome, welcome :)

always room for one more

first post too - good for you

"the one thing we have in common is that we are all different"

back to work 3 days PO??

i have heard of people having surgery on a friday - back to work on Monday!!

i think they are the exception to the rule

people's reactions to be newly sleeved, any operation - react differently

i have heard responses of 2 weeks back to work

but - it depends on the person

able to swallow your meds???

i think that is quite a variable

i was able to swallow my meds within a couple of days - no prob

others might need to squish up in apple sauce for a few days

wraps for loose skin???

"probably" some others have tried

i never tried

lotions??

i buy a generic brand from Rite Aide drug store

back to gym???

i think this is a major question for your doc

some people are told they can go to gym with 6 weeks, a month or........

walking was the basic good exercise i did within a few days

good luck with surgery

speedy recovery

kathy

I had a hiatal hernia repaired that was suspected when I had my sleeve done. I am 3 weeks post op by the way. I am taking 6 weeks off work as that is how long my lifting restriction is because of the hernia repair. I'm also a firefighter /paramedic, so that has alot to do with it. I think 3 days is way too soon in my opinion. The first few days is not easy getting your fluids in and it's too important not to put your full attention into it. At least a week.

Ask your surgeon about your thyroid medicine. In my case, it depended on the size of the pill. Anything smaller than your pinky fingernail was ok, but that's a surgeon or nutritionist question.

Can't help you with any of the other questions. Good luck with your surgery. We'll see you on the other side soon!

1. Doc said I'll be back to work in 3 days post-op. Is that true?

I don't know. Everyone is different. It depends on the requirements of your job and how well you are healing.

2. Will I be able to swallow my thyroid meds post-op?

I don't know. I was able to take all my meds in pill form starting the day after surgery with no problem.

3. Anyone try it-works wraps for loose skin?

No. I would rather spend my money on something helpful, like a massage.

4. Any recommendations for firming lotions, etc to help with skin elasticity while rapidly losing?

I like Palmer's Cocoa Butter and Palmer's Cocoa Oil. Staying hydrated, exercising, taking your Vitamins, getting in all of your Protein, and keeping your skin moisturized should be sufficient. If not, you might want to talk to a dermatologist.

5. How soon until I'm back in the gym? (Rowing machine, lunges, squats, light weights, etc)?

I don't know. It depends on your recovery and when you are cleared by your surgeon. You have to be very careful for about 4-6 weeks post-op with anything that engages your abs in order to avoid hernias and rupturing your incisions. You also need to wait until your incisions have healed over to submerge in Water.

I know most of my answers aren't as definite as you would like, but much of this depends on so many variables it is impossible to give you firm answers.

I'm not sue about the time frame since I am pre op but my doctor did say if you are desk job it can be within a week. I'm interested in those it works wraps but what I have heard helps is the corsets for waist training I know someone who used it and it helped tighten.

Also idk if you have heard of the makeup company younique but I am an independent seller for them and we offer a product called uplift serum. It can be used for many different things but one of them is to tighten skin (people use on face mostly but you can use on stomach ) you can also use it to reduce any stretch marks you have. I am actually going to start using it now for my stretch marks to get on top of them before surgery. If you have any questions feel free to reach out ! Good luck with everything !!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
