TENGAL 0 Posted July 20, 2007 I am three days post-op and have always been "regular," but have not had a BM since surgery. When should I start to worry? What should I do if I "can't go"? TenGal:help:
trystelle 3 Posted July 20, 2007 I was worried as well by day three with no BM. I used a Glycerine suppository to get things moving. It worked, but not much to move. Since then it is only little bits every day or two-guess that's what a liquid diet will do!
valzie 0 Posted July 20, 2007 I have heard others say that sometimes the meds that they take for pain after surgery can do that to you. You can also try stool softeners.
faithmd 14 Posted July 20, 2007 I started drinking those Gerber Baby juices in the Apple Prune variety, they are the perfect size at 4 oz and are 70 calories and it made ALL the difference in the world (if you know what I mean!).
RN2be2008 0 Posted July 21, 2007 FaithMD- GOodness you are sooo right.. I have been drinking the gerber apple prune since you suggested it and I have had my first BM yesterday and today. They were not much but I guess that is to be expected with the lack of food. I also have been passing lots of gas, I am doing so much better now. I even walked around the block...Please take FaithMD's advice and try the juice.< /p>

Is it to be expected that my BM's are watery or at the very best very loose ? im guessing yes since I am "Drinking" most of my food. But is this to be expected ? I have even had a few " accidents" SO embarrased, luckily I was at home. But anyone else have this issue. I also have IBS ( Irritable bowel so i suspect that might have a small portion to do w/ it ) t Thanks Mindy :car:
kirajh 0 Posted July 23, 2007 I was banded a week ago and the nutritionist told me to dilute the juice with Water or I would get diahrea. I did but still got a slight case. Not much but now I have gas and the stuff that is coming out of me looks like green algae. Is that normal?? I think it's bile but it is nasty looking and I don't know if that is normal. TENGAL 0 Posted July 23, 2007 I finally gave up and took an enema Sat. What I passed was from my last meal, which was two days before surgery. Since then I haven't had a BM or even a feeling that I need to go. I'm going to try the Gerber apple prune that others suggest. Thanks for the suggestions everybody. Lilly73 0 Posted July 24, 2007 I had gone 4 days without a BM...also the gas was just terrible...even 4 days post op I was continuing to pass tremendous amounts of gas. I used a suppository and that got out a lot of gas and a small BM but I knew there was more...so I did a fleets enema and that solved all my dilemnas!! I have been drinking prune juice faithfully everyday since and have had no BM issues as of yet...hoping it stays that way.
