Help please... Can't get liquid down ! 1 week post op

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am about 9 days postop. I have not had any trouble drinking as long as I drink slowly.
However, this morning I took my liquid supplements (liquid Multivitamins, cod liver oil, Vitamin D etc.). I then had a couple of sips of milk. And it seems that the milk got "stuck" and I know I only had very little, not a lot, drank slow, and ever since then I have thrown up some slimy stuff couple of times and I just cannot get any liquid down. And I really feel like something is stuck in my stomach... ???
Have any of you experienced this?

I wonder if some of the Vitamins may have reacted with each other or the milk. I've had similar experiences and spacing things out seemed to prevent it from happening.

Yes. Most people experience this and it is part of "learning" how to "work" your sleeve. As @@axlr8n mentioned, it might be that combing your supplements with milk is a no-no. Or, perhaps you might want to try taking your supplements separately, at different times of the day. The "stuck" feeling is usually associated with over eating (or drinking in the beginning stages). The combined liquid amount of Vitamins plus milk, was perhaps too much for your tiny stomach.

Hope you are feeling better. It will pass, and soon you will be an expert at what to eat, when to eat, how to eat, etc.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
