So weak and tired

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 weeks out and going back to work full time on Monday. I'm worried because I'm so tired still. I'm getting my fluids and Protein. Any other ideas on how to regain strength?

The 3rd week was a rough week for me too but it gets better. Make sure you're taking Vitamins (including B12) and getting Protein and fluids and just be patient.???? Promise it gets better and will totally be worth it!!

Time. That is really the only thing you can do. I would advise against drinking coffee/caffeine just yet. I realize it will be tempting for that moring boost, but it will upset your stomach so soon after surgery.

Are you on blood pressure medication? It is possible that your blood pressure has dropped since surgery. Have it checked; if it's too low, call your primary and see whether you should change your BP meds.

I had to do half days the first few days. Four hours day one and two, six hours day three. Just being up and at work helped me to get stronger. Planning ahead to have plenty of Water (that's what sent me home early on day two, I forgot to drink) and my food all lined up for meals and breaks.

Good luck to you. I hope you feel better soon.

It wasn't until I got on regular cooked foods that I was able to detect any increase in energy. That was at one month (4 1/2 weeks). So if you can get by until you are on regular food, you will feel so much better.

Oh man, how could I have forgot to mention this?! I was a zombie the first two weeks after my surgery because of my BP meds. That was a huge help when I was told to stop taking them. Good job pointing this out!

I remember having to consume juice and Greek yogurt to get some extra calories in so that I could have some sustainable energy. However, once I learned to work my sleeve and consume the cals I needed, I completely backed off of the juices. I know it is rough and that everyone tends to say, "It's going to get better." As redundant as that is, it is true. Time and learning how to work your sleeve will make the difference. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
