OMG Surgery Tomorrow (11-19-2015)

Recommended Posts

I have what I need for the hospital packed (or I hope I have everything!)

Finishing up work so others at my office can continue my tasks.

Just waiting for scheduling to tell me what time to be there in the morning. Surgeon states normal inpatient time is 30 hours if no complications. That means home Friday afternoon or evening. I have decided (LOL) not to have any complications.

Wow....almost there!! Am so stoked. How am I going to sleep tonight??

Congratulations!! I too am getting surgery tomorrow and anxiously waiting for my phone call from scheduling to get my surgery time.

I hope I packed everything I will want and need. I will be in the hospital for 2-3 days so we will see. Good luck with everything!!

Can't sleep. Did anyone else just toss and turn the night before surgery?

I was able to doze for a few hours. Still feel like I got no sleep. Showered, dressed, ready to go. 40 minutes till leave.

Surgery went ok, a few hours delayed. Spent Thursday and Friday night and released to go home today (Saturday) around noon.

Won't lie, the first day was rough. 2nd day not much better. But Saturday morning early (like 2am! ) I got a change in pain meds that eased the pain and let me sleep. Woke up sorta refreshed and spoke to the surgeon. Said I was progressing nicely and could go home. Didn't take me long to pack up! Home sweet home!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
