Walking Shoe

Recommended Posts

What is a good comfortable walking tennis shoe for someone 5'1" 280 lbs? I'm pre surgery and want to get started walking now but every shoe I've bought hurts my feet in no time at all. I've even been fitted at The Walking co. and thought I had good shoes but after a few weeks home my feet were killing me to walk. I've tried every brand that I can find. New Balance Brooks Abeo and more.

I have almost 40 pairs of Converse All Stars that I've walked, lifted weights, cycled, fished, lived in for years...

I've never worn a more comfortable shoe...

And I started at 560 pounds...

You might want to get an evaluation with an orthopedist, to make sure that there are no problems. I ended up needing custom braces in order to stay active due to posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD)

Is it just straight up pain? If so, what kind of pain and where? Or are you getting blisters? I may possibly have suggestions if I know a little more.

I've been a runner since my teens, but when I was at my heaviest, around 237, my feet would swell horribly when I ran. Changing my shoe didn't help because all of the pressure on my feet is what was causing the problem. Do you have a gym nearby that has a pool? You can get a great workout in by just jogging up and down the lanes (deep end you can wear a floatation device). This limits the strain on your feet significantly and still burns a lot of calories. I taught aqua aerobics when I was in college and a lot of people who had issues with their knees really enjoyed the classes.

It's pretty much the whole foot. The shoes seem to break down quickly. I've bought shoes that feel good in the store and get them home and after a few days the soles of my feet feel like I'm walking on rocks.

I do have a YMCA that has Water aerobics.

I will do the aqua aerobics.

Way to go starting a walking program! That is going to make a big difference. Sole brand orthotic inserts are amazing -- for me they are better than the expensive custom ones I got from a podiatrist.

Hoka One One makes the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.

Foot, knee, hip and back pain is gone.....gone......gone.

No break in. Take them out of the box....lace 'em up and profit.

Second to that I would say is Brooks and then New Balance.

Thank you I'll take a look at those. Are they sold exclusively online or do any stores carry them?

Both online and in local stores.

You can go to their website and they have a search feature for local stores that stock them. Sort of new, but they are certainly going to grow tremendously.

I'm very grateful they now make them in men's wide sizes.

So comfortable I want to sleep in them, too. No kidding. Crazy comfortable.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
