Well this is the first time I've been able to get on since June 11th. We've been to New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho. We plan to be gone until the first of September. To date I've lost 65.5 lbs, feeling really good. We walk everyday and I try and do different exercises (leg lifts, arm curls, etc) in the rig while we drive. The hardest part is eating in restaurants. Most of the time we cook our meals in the rig, but every so often we splurge and eat out. I have found so far all the restaurants have accepted my Restaurant Card. Well I've got to go, just wanted to check in with you all. Have a great summer, whats left anyway. :D ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!

kathy,

The Restaurant Card is what you use when you want to order a childs plate...if you show the restaurant the card saying that you have surgery on your stomach, making it smaller, then they shouldn't have any problems letting your order a childs portion...Did you get one from your surgeon? I did, but I have never had to use it...If a restaurant wouldn't let me order a childs plate, I would just leave....its not like you are not paying for the dinner..and if a childs portion is all I can eat, then I should be able to order it...

I got my card from my surgeon. I found that if I explain to the waitperson they are very understanding. I usually order from the buffet at the childs rate of about 3.99. It works well for me this way I can pick and choose. I've found that sometimes things are cooked to dry to eat so this works better for me. Won't have net for awhile but I 'll check in as often as possible.. ON THE ROAD AGAIN.... Best to you all

Just a note to let you all know I'm home for awhile. Had a great time traveling but it sure feels good to sleep in my own bed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
