How long did it take you to notice?

Recommended Posts

I will be one month post op on November 21st, and I have a few people who have told me they see changes in my appearance. However, I don't see them myself and I haven't really lost that much weight since since surgery. My question for you guys is how long did it take for you to notice changes yourself?

It's harder for you to notice changes in yourself. I was worried at first but I work with alot of guys and we don't compliment other guys lol. I saw someone that I hadn't seen in a year and they freaked. Side by side pics is the way to do it

I'm 9 months and over 150 pounds post-op and I STILL struggle to see the differences...

I know I'm smaller...

I know it!!!

But I still can't SEE it...

(Except in the side by side headshot that I've posted before (and is in my 'gallery'))...

And from what I can gather, that's pretty normal..

@@mark1733 has said the same and I'm sure most will concur...

I have a lot to lose but I noticed changes right away -- just not where I expected it. When I went in for my first post-op follow-up appointment I noticed I was "jigglier" than usual when I walked.

I am not quite 2 months post op and I am down 70 pounds from my starting weight in May. People are starting to notice that I have lost weight. I saw a girl I work with for the first time in like 6+ weeks between my time off and hers and when she saw me all she said was holy crap your thin.

I see it sometimes other times I don't see it. When I put on clothes that actually fit and aren't too big, then i really see it. So mostly I see it when I go to work as I had to buy some new work clothes as I couldn't fudge it anymore and its crazy.

@@MickeyMax95 - I didn't physically start "seeing" it until I was down about 50. My clothes were the biggest motivators for me. I couldn't keep up my shorts/pants/panties - that's to me the best NSV ever!

I'm one month post-op tomorrow, and one of the guys at work stopped me this morning and said, "Wow, you can really see a difference in how you look!"

For me, the only differences I can spot are a smaller butt, a thinner face, and smaller boobs. But I only notice the first and last one because my bras and skirts are fitting differently!

I noticed my face thinning out while I was home the first 2 weeks after surgery ...

Other posters are correct ... if you keep looking for something .... you probably won't see it ...

Before and what I call "so far" pics are the best :)

It was all of a sudden. Yes my clothes are smaller but one day I looked in the mirror and I was like WHOA! Pictures do help too. I am 4 months post op now and it gets better everyday.

How much have you lost? I've heard that if you don't follow thru with the Protein supplement of at least 70 a day, you'll lose muscle instead of fat and it won't show as much.

I typically get in around 60 grams or more of protein. I drink premiere protein. I also eat eggs, Greek yogurt, etc.

I feel like at about 5 weeks post op before I could really notice a difference. About 12 weeks in, patients and other staff at the hospital I work at started to comment on my weight loss.

Others started commenting almost immediately. I could tell I was losing by my clothes but didn't realize the difference until I took a picture with someone one Saturday. I compared it with an old picture and couldn't believe the change. Unfortunately I still see myself the same size when I look in the mirror most of the time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
