I am 5 days post op. I have been having a pain in my chest since surgery. I am hoping it is just gas still or taking too big of a sip, or too much. The thing is it happens when I haven't drank anything. Like in the middle of the night. It's just a sharp pain and just lasts for a few seconds. Kind of lower sternum.

I have always had heartburn/GERD. Now I don't have any acid come into my throat but wondering if this is my new heartburn feeling?

I am 4 days post op and I would love to connect with someone going thru this at the same time. I'm not having pain in my chest but I've been told that is gas that can work its way up to your shoulders. I hope you get to feeling better. I can't get rid of the nausea. I'm really regretting doing this about now :(

It most likely is. Are you taking a PPI?

Did you by chance have a hiatal hernia repair at the same time as your surgery? I am 7 days post op and did have the hernia repair. I actual spent yesterday in the hospital for chest pain to find that the hernia isn't settling correctly causing inflammation in my chest and that's what's causing my pain.

I did have the hernia repair. Was your pain constant or just occasional?

My pain is for the most part constant. I do get some relief if I sit with my feet up and hands behind my head. The sad thing is you can't take any inflammation meds because it could hinder the healing of your stomach. They told me the pain would decrease over time and eventually go away as the repair settles more. So far it has gone away some but it's still there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
