December 9th!

I hate those hospital beds! Did you have to do a upper gi test to see if you had leakage? I dry heaved on the dye and the anthestia. My ribs are sore from that as well. Did you have a blood drain on you? OMG I thought I was going to die when the nurse was trying to get it out. She got blood on me her and all over and the floor!

Have you been able to eat? I'm doing well with sipping on Water but could only take 1 sip of the Protein Shake.< /p>

The drain sounds scary! No test, they talked about it, but decided I didn't need it for some reason, just had me sipping Water about 24 hours after surgery to see how I'd tolerate it. No eating, apart from a teaspoon of Protein pudding so I could mix my heartburn meds into it. Felt pretty painful afterwards, tho I ate it very slowly. No Protein shakes, just Water, though I've also had my Gummy vjts, liquid Iron, and Calcium chews, but I let them dissolve slowly and felt pain afterwards.

How are you feeling otherwise?

Hmmmm.

I don't like crushing my rx but I'm going to try mixing it with pudding.< /p>

That sounds like a great idea.

a little bit of pain but try to start walking around the house. It helps.

My heartburn meds are capsules, they said to open the capsule and sprinkle on food. I'm not sure if that would work with other meds. I think they said I could crush pain pills if needed, but I know you can't crush vits because they will be less effective. The other meds I'm on, the pain and nausea meds, are liquid and dissolving, respectively.

I still can't get the medicines down via crushed.

How are you doing?

What meds are you crushing? All mine are liquid apart from my heartburn ones, but those are capsules I can open and sprinkle. I was able to have 2 full shakes today, plus soup/broth, and about 48 oz of Water. Are you able to get much down yet? I'm trying to take it easy but worry that skipping Water or Protein will slow healing.

I'm not able to get even 1/2 that down.

My 2 blood pressure medicines, xanax, cholesterol, wellbutrin,

I gulped too much Water and that was a mistake.

I'm having a problem with wanting to eat and drink at the same time.

My nose is also running for some weird reason too.

Did anyone talk to you about your meds before the surgery? I wasn't on any so it was simple, but they wanted to give me alternatives if I was.

Not really. I sent the info to my primary Dr but that was it.

How are you doing the drinking Water and eating? How long are you waiting for both?

I'm not waiting at the moment, TBH, I just want to get down whatever I can! I'm just sipping super slowly and walking around the house if I push it too much and it gets uncomfortable. Once I'm on purees I'll time it better. How are you managing it?

I'd suggest calling your surgeon's office about your meds, they'll be able to tell you what can be crushed and can give you scripts for liquid alternatives.

How are you doing today? My Protein Shakes taste totally different from pre surgery are you having that issue? I sure hope I can start eating some soft food after my surgeon visit on next Wednesday.

My surgery was on the 9th as well. Yes, the Protein Shakes taste totally different. Today I was able to get down 1.5 cups of cream Soup, 9 ounces of Protein Shake, 34 ounces of Water. I have lost 16 pounds since the day before surgery. I finally started feeling better today and got out to run some errands. Tomorrow the staples come out. Super excited for that.

Wow you have to get staples out?

I'm drinking a lot of skim milk because these Protein Shakes are disgusting. I will have to confess I ate a Reese miniature yesterday.

I went to GNC, told them I was struggling to find Protein Shakes I like, and that I can't stand stevia. They were SO helpful, he suggested a tub of vanilla powder that looks like some weird techno body builder Protein, but he said it's the one most people like, and he was right! It tastes good, has 25g protein per scoop, and I have it with soy milk, which has 9g of protein in 8oz. I have two of those a day and haven't been hungry! Are you getting protein from other sources?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
