Sleeved Nurse 20 Posted November 17, 2015 My surgery is 12/8/15. So I go for my "preop"class as they call it next Tursday which will be exactly 2 weeks before my surgery. My surgeon never mentioned a preop liquid diet but I was wondering if that's what they are going to tell me at the class. Just wanted to hear from you all about it! CynthiaAnn 59 Posted November 17, 2015 My doctor never required that at all. My insurance required I be on a 3 month doctor supervised diet.
atlmag 77 Posted November 17, 2015 My surgeon doesn't require one , but it appears many do.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted November 17, 2015 Ours wasn't a liquid diet. It was just high Protein, very low carb (basically Atkins phase 1). No sugar, starches, etc.

Elode 8,093 Posted November 17, 2015 Everyone's different I did a two week pre-op. Depends on your surgeon, better wait for that meeting.
L.Harmony 64 Posted November 17, 2015 My doctor had a special diet but it was tho start 10 days before surgery. It was difficult but it can be helpful after surgery because you're ready to be on clear liquid and liquid stages.

BigTink2LilTink 723 Posted November 17, 2015 I had to do a two week clear liquid diet before my surgery. How it was explained to me was that they wanted to shrink down the size of my liver to avoid any complications. That was one of the hardest things I had to do. The first week was hell, after that I was good.
Fatty McFatster 888 Posted November 17, 2015 I am on Day 11 of my 2-week pre-op diet. It consists of mostly liquids, low carb, no sugar, low fat, and high Protein. Also has to be no more than 500-700 calories per day. Just 3 more days for me until surgery.
