Surgery week is here! My surgery is Wednesday, November 18th. I've got most of my stuff packed. I am packing for the hospital and the weekend after as I am staying with a friend at her apartment that has an elevator! My kitchen is cleaned out except for post-surgery items. I have the rest of today and the morning tomorrow to work and then two weeks+ off for recovery. One more trip to the pharmacy to refill prescriptions and get a few things and I'm ready.

This journey started when I was put on my first diet at the age of 6 because I wasn't thin. (I wasn't fat either, but I wasn't thin.) I've never been thin, but its only been the last 10-15 years that I've really put on the weight. Like everyone else, I have tried everything. In July I realized that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. My knees were starting to hurt climbing stairs, my feet were starting to become a problem, my diabetes (A1c) and blood pressure were creeping up, my wardrobe was soon going to need to go up another size and that was getting harder to find, and I realized that I had reached the point that I was ready for surgery. I had exhausted my last option and was ready and willing to make this step.

So here I am almost the eve of surgery excited, contemplative, and scared. Ready to just get on with it and not have to be anxious anymore.

To everyone else have surgery this week! Best wishes!

Hi

sounds like you have prepared. Although I know the anxiety right before surgery, I sailed through mine - very little pain for me - except some gas the first week and minor incision pain. I was off pain meds after the first day. Just be patient with yourself on the other side as you try to get in all your nutrients and begin to heal. Follow your doctor's instructions as best you can and good luck with your surgery!

It's exciting to finally get to this point. The day of surgery was a blur for me but the nurses were very attentive and made sure I had what I needed. Day 2, I had to remind the nurse that I had to get up and walk, So don't be shy about asking for things, reminding them. Good luck and very best wishes!

It sounds like your ready, I had my surgery on October 28th, my experience was similar to dar200, day was I was heavily medicated and day two but by the second night I was getting up and walking around, I made myself, anytime I had to use the bathroom, I had to take a lap, my personal rule. Glad I did. But it really sounds like your ready. Good luck today.

My surgery was 14 months ago. It has had its ups and downs but l was exactly like you---I had reached the point where I realized nothing was going to work but the surgery. It is a long journey. My husband thought it might not have worked because it takes a while for the results to start showing. Then it looks like the weight just melts off. 14 months out I have reached my weight goal. For the first time in my adult life I have a healthy BMI. I went from a size 24 - 28 to a size 6-8. My surgeon says I am the poster child for weight loss surgery. As soon as I could I started swimming laps. At first just a few, now I swim every day at least 25 laps. My biggest issues were staying hydrated and getting enough fluids. Thank goodness my surgeon wanted me off Protein Shakes as soon as possible and wanted me to get Protein from food. Life is so much better. And the clothes! I am so amazed I can wear skinny jeans and shop any where. I waited until I lost 80 pounds to buy anything. Lane Bryant and Catherine's keep sending me coupons saying they miss me and want me back --- but they are never going to see me again????. Wishing you the best of luck and so much success on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
