Okay is there any ice cream we can have? Like sherbet? I was never a ice cream person ever but kinda craving ice cream. My doc said don't count calories for the first year but no cream so there must be something we could have hopefully fruity!!

I used to be an ice cream fanatic, easily eating at least a pint every night as a bedtime snack. If I were to start up again, I could very easily become a bariatric reprobate. What I do now, just to get the flavor of vanilla ice cream is this: I fix up a glass of milk with vanilla extract and some sweetener. This is something I also do if I start missing that big "Jethro" bowl of Cereal. I did buy one of those appliances that turns frozen bananas into ice cream, which is just okay if you like bananas.

I had 1/2 cup of Turkey Hill No Sugar vanilla Ice cream. It is made with Splenda. I've only tried it once, not really having the cravings....just as a nice reward every now and then. I've not had any adverse effects, nor has it slowed down my weight loss. I'm careful to not over do it.

TH Vanilla, has 0 fat, 6 net g sugars, 70 calories, 3 g Protein

I still eat ice cream. It's not one of those problem foods for me, but it's one of my most favorite foods. If I eat over 1/2 cup, I will dump. I've only had to dump once to make sure that doesn't happen again. I never get a cone, always a scoop in a dish. I eat 1/3 to a half cup and stop. I might have ice cream twice a month.

If you have the will power to stop after just a few bites, you should be good. Some of us have foods that once we start eating, we can't stop. Mine is caramel. I won't eat that. But if you feel that it will lead to over eating, dumping, or eating other unhealthy foods, then you should stir clear. Is this a food you can cross back over line from?

You are best judge of you.

Now I certainly don't want to sound critical but unfortunately this may come across this way. I noticed that a lot of your posts are about food, some good choices and some being cravings. You haven't update your information so again can only guess you had sleeve? and you are only what 4 weeks out? I am 10 weeks and can barely eat the required foods that I need to be eating never mind having ANY kind of craving.

My point is this just head hunger cravings you are having? If they are real have you analyzed why you are thinking of eating such foods? This early out I don't think you should be or even considering eating any; this is just setting yourself up for failure.

Oh and please update your stats, much easier to answer your posts

@@sarahbethemails I am not an ice cream person either and I find that satisfying the craving once takes care of it for months...it is an entirely different season next time I even feel like having any. This sounds like your situation as well. Just knock yourself out, find your favorite flavor, and just let your sleeve tell you when to stop (it is a slider food, but you'll still be able to use common sense and feel some fullness).

I also agree that counting calories in the first year is generally counterproductive, unless you feel your restriction is really not what you expected.

Thanks everyone I appreciate it. Oh no problem I don't mind criticism it honestly doesn't bother me whatsoever not being mean though. I never ate ice cream barely .... Just craving something cold and fruity so since I am not allowed fresh fruit didn't know if there was a ice cream fruity that we can have that can substitute that craving for fruit. I been sucking on lemons daily so bad like 2 a day!! lol haven't had any issues so yes a lot of my questions are about food that's why I am here learning how to eat see what people eat yes I know see a nutritionist I am but only so many questions I can ask in a visit. Also like to get others opinions as well!! I also tried to update my profile and I can't it doesn't allow me to but thanks yes I am 7 weeks out gastric bypass and on solid foods at this point. Just can't have raw vegetables or fresh fruit yet. Thanks though!!

Ice cream and sherbert is a slippery slope. Something I did not even attempt until I was 6 months out.

Sherbert has way too much sugar in it. Ice cream honestly works a bit better but what I have noticed is if I behave and literally eat about 2 to 3 ounces, I am ok. If I indulge in say a whole scoop I get the absolute worst pain in my intestines. I mean doubled over in the fetal position.

The longest this lasted was 12 hours. Ice cream and cheesecake are about my two favorite sweet treats. I have learned to simply eat a couple of ounces and it totally satisfies my craving.

I will say that I plan this. In other words I track every morsel of food I put in my mouth and if I choose to have ice cream, I make sure that my overall carb count is below 100 for the day, my Protein is on track and for me, my calories will land below 1100.

The other thing about ice cream is there is actually some Protein in it where sherbert there is not.

At your stage, I would be very very careful about testing the waters so soon.

A couple days ago I blended a vanilla Premier Protein shake with some frozen strawberries. It was like a strawberry soft serve ice cream. It was a way to get in my Protein and a nice break from the usual Protein Shake.< /p>

What about no sugar added frozen yogurt? We have a summer home in a lovely resort that had an ice cream shop that people adore. I know I can't eat the ice cream, but they do offer the frozen yogurt (no sugar ADDED). I am two weeks pre-surgery. I suppose I'll have to ask for the nutrition label next summer when i get there....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
