Hi, Kalamazoo, do you live there, I do. it would be nice to talk together. I was banded at Borgess on May 31, 2007 and am having some restriction after one fill of 4cc in my 10 cc band. Dr. Verseman did the banding. maybe we can talk?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one reading this with one eyebrow arched in suspicion/confusion.

My best friend's mom tried to get her to have GB under similar circumtances, but she put her foot down and said no and it never happened. This seems... hole-y.

Besides, if she never wanted it, why is she following the diet to a T? Wouldn't she eat whatever she wanted to try to continue with normalcy? Not go to the surgeon in the first dang place? Is she considered unable by her state to make her own choices? That would explain part of it, but still...

Hi there. I just wanted to say that I see it differently than some, I don't think it has anything to do with 'good intentions'. What your parents did to you was abuse, plan and simple. It was physical and emotional abuse, physical via a medical procedure that you did not want or need, and emotional in the sense that they were not reinforcing your reportedly positive pre-surgery body image. I too am curious where you are from though, since, in my country at least, 18 is the age of adulthood and one's parents could not complete paperwork or even be that involved in a process such as this - the surgeon would have been required to speak with you directly, and any ethical surgeon would have picked up on your reservations and lack of enthusiasm. At the same time, you were 19 and some would say that you were old enough to excercise free will. That is why I am hesitant to call it 'child abuse', because you are not a child. Either way, I am sorry to hear of your experience and hope you have resolved the situation and are looking forward to a brighter future! Good luck and keep us posted.

Dont wish to sue I really dont have the money to do so at this time. I dont really find the surgeon at fault because they did receive paper work that was signed with my name (but not by me), the doctors/surgeons I don't wish to ruin their reputations because as i said they had the paper work just not in my signature & they did a good operation i guess... although the person I really do blame the most it my mom for signing the papers also she signed the papers because she wanted to see what it was like before she got it done...I believe if she wanted a guine pig she should have used herself. But pointing the finger at someone wont fix a problem. So I've done what I can so far...I did sever all ties & moved out & have a job, I am currently living at my friends dad's house(he said he would take me in) til i can afford an appartment, insurance, and basic needs.

It might be a while before i can get back to this thread or on line, trying to find places to use computers is kind of hard to do. lol so far i've only found one library that will let me use their computers. thanks for the help. Best wishes to everyone.

You don't have to sue...just file a complaint with their licensing board. Usually they have a state website which lists how to file a complaint along with the forms. Pretty simple process. The therapist for sure broke confidentiality if you didn't sign a release. He/she shouldn't discuss your sessions or anything about you with another person without your consent.

I would suggest you find another therapist. Many do pro-bono work. The fact that you weren't strong enough to stand up to your parents, dr's, etc, speaks of a pretty big issue that should be looked into.

Best of luck to you.

I'd have to agree. I think there are bits and pieces that are missing from this story. And something that makes no sense:

>>She got mad & said we can go have it taken out. (no because She signed the waver saing it could only be removed if it was a medical emergency.)<<

Impossible.

I agree something is not right about this. I wanted to learn more about the op so I went to her public profile. looked up her other posts it appears she is from Bismark, so....maybe HIPPA is not big there. but it is interesting to read posts about her being a doing a pre-op diet and testing different shakes. but I found most interesting was the following

New member, just banded hoping all goes well

Hi! I'm excited to have found this site. I was banded on Dec.18th 2006,by Dr. Schmit, all is going ok. I am having some problems with my stitches dissolving before the incisions have healed, and they wont restitch them shut, Other than that it is going well. I go back for my first check up on Jan15th 2007. I am still on a liquid diet trying to transistion into the 2 weeks after surgury diet. I'm a college student hoping to change my life(and health) with this surgury and avoid joint replacement beings I am a mechanic that is enevitable but I'm hopeing with this it will postpone it alittle. Hopefully I'll find some helpful hints to help me along the way here (like recipes, exercise, and any information about first check ups, etc.)

If you can give me any tips I would be extremely greatful.

seems to me she has had a change of heart and now is blaming others but who knows maybe the above is not true and the story of her family is.

I truely think that this is the biggest bull I have read in a very long time..are you among the living???At 19 you didn't have a voice--everyone on this board has gone through extensive testing and evaluations to get approved--and so did you....or you would not have had the band. So come clean and tell us all this was just to test our reactions!!!

No one can be forced into surgery. It's absolute nonsense. Maybe you had the surgery, now regret it, and are looking for some where to place the blame? At any point in the process (and ask anyone who has had the surgery, going from initial consultation, to the actual surgery date is A PROCESS) you could have said, NO. Maybe you felt forced because you have some other deeper issues involving your parents' approval, but that is an entirely different issue that would have been addressed had you been honest at the initial psych evaluation that is required in the first place. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but I cannot listen to someone make excuses as to why they are not responsible for their own life.

I agree with this. Sadly we all know the internet can bring out alot of BS. I don't eat sh*t so I agree this is a load of it. I am so sorry that you need to make up such stories to get attention in your life. I am sorry that you are so lost in the world you have to make up such horrible lies. I am also sorry for anyone that believes you. They deserve better than to be dooped by you.

Has anyone consodered she might have a mental illness?

Her early posts sounds like she was compliant with the band and Dr's instructions etc. Maybe she was just too immature to know at the time the band was placed what the long term requirements etc would mean.

Or maybe she was/is just not mentally stable to make the decision in the first place.

Personally, I am (mostly) against those under 21 getting a lap band. I would be in favor of it for people 18 to 21 if they had very high BMI's.

Has anyone had experience with this Dr. Schmit in the Bismarck area? If he's a real legit Dr., then this story is hard to believe. Er, if he isn't there at all, the story is harder to believe.

Boo Boo, you look great! What have you done to get all of the weight off? I have had some progress but you seem like you got it off at a much faster rate than I will be able to!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
