My daily struggle

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 3mos post op. I do well with most of my requirements, but the whole no drinking 30 mins before and 30 mins after is my struggle. I mean as soon as I sit down to eat-instant dehydration! Lol I swear I'm dying of thirst at that specific moment in time!! I know I'm still trying to reprogram myself to this new habit , but damnit! Lol whew! I had to get that out!

I'm "practicing" the whole not drinking with meals thing and it is the most difficult thing for me right now. Especially with hot foods. I'm sure it'll be second nature for all of us at some point but I sure hear ya!

I have never followed that rule. I decided from the start I wasn't spending my life with a dry mouth everytime I ate. I am 26 months post-op and have been at goal for almost 6 months. The only reason you are told not to drink and eat is so you don't flush food down your stomach faster. If you're paying attention to how much you eat, you can drink at the same time.

My Dr told me the only reason they tell you that is because they want you to try to get your full 4 oz of Proteins in, also some people get very uncomfortable if they drink and eat. I've never had an issue. This rule I do not follow.

If, at 3 months post op, this is your biggest struggle then I'd say you're well on the way to a much healthier life...

Congratulations to you...

I know the reasoning behind it, but it's still a pain. I'm trying to follow the 'rules' as much as I can to maximize my loss but... Lol grrr this one is stupid! Lol we'll make it though ladies! I have faith!

I went out for dinner on the weekend and would've drunk about a litre of Water with my meal. It'll be hard to get used to not being able to do this.

Ditto..... I have found that I can drink right up till I eat but after I eat, I have to HAVE TO HAVE TO wait till 30 min pass otherwise I feel awful. You might be able to lessen the time before eating (as it moves faster in your pouch).

That is a tough one! It takes so long to drink Water that it seems almost impossible, but eventually it all falls together.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
