I am 2 1/2 years post op and I was at my goal of 170 one year ago. In the past year I have gained 30 lbs. - my mom was diagnosed with cancer then broke her hip. She's home with hospice and it's a day to day struggle. Every free moment I have I spend with her. I have been struggling with anemia and have a hard time exercising due to getting short of breath. I am just beside myself and I know people who have lost 20-30 pounds with this and I'm thinking this might help with my late night stress cravings.

I am sorry to hear about your daily struggles. It seems like nowadays its the grandparents taking care of the great grandparents. Probably not something one thinks about in early life.

I haven't heard of the weight loss drug "qsymia" and don't know anything about it. I am 30 months post-op RNY and have been fairly successful about keeping the weight off. I wrote a short article about the "Maintenance" phase. It is available on-line at http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

I too was at 170 a few months ago but I got really sick and had acute kidney failure so I have been taking it easy. I also have been having issues with my lapband and with depression so I have gained 30 pounds in a few months ☹️. I really want to try Qsymia but I am on Medicaid so I doubt they will cover it and I bet it is expensive.

If I understand this correctly it's another variation of Phentermine. I guess my question is are you planning to take this under medical supervision or just buy it on your own? Personally I am against so called weight loss drugs. For me the risk to your health far outweigh the weight loss, especially if you are not taking this under a doctor's care.

I would look into getting some supports for caring for your mother and tending properly to your health. Shortness of breath +speed sounds like a recipe for trouble. If you can get a home health aid to assist you with caring for your mom, perhaps use some of the maintenance skills linked above. Sounds like you need to be food prepping so that your diet is more balanced to correct your anemia or at least plan better Snacks. I'd be trying to focus more on eating better than exercise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
