Post-op surgery was Nov. 9

Recommended Posts

Now that I have finally had the gastric sleeve surgery, I'm still in shock that I got it! Like, I can't wrap my head around the fact that my stomach is now really small. I'm doing pretty well by my standards. My left side is bruised so bad it looks like someone painted me purple. Eating has been going really well. I haven't thrown anything up (knock on wood). I'm very sensitive to pain medication because I have chronic Migraines, but that actually hasn't been too bad either. I am having the Post-op blues though. Was this pain worth it? Can I really change my diet? When can I just eat solid foods again! And I'm really done with sugar free things! Did anyone else have to be on sugar free popcicles, pudding, and yogurt? We're you ever able to switch back? I sometimes have pain in my chest after I eat and I tend to burn a little and that hurts too. Is that normal? Thank you for any input you might have.

We share the same sleeversary :) I'm back home and having difficulty getting everything in. It's way tougher than I expect. I wondered if the doctor had actually done anything because I never feel any kind of restriction, just lack of desire.

The only time I barfed was in the hospital because I don't take to painkillers kindly. Once out I kinda forgot I'd had it done and took a few gulps of Water. It didn't feel great. Sip sip sip!

I'm only using acetaminophen as a painkiller during the day, and im taking hydrocodone at night because it makes my vision blurry.

My doc has cleared me for full liquids, so I'm on yogurt, cream Soups with with no lumps, and Protein shakes mixed with milk or milk substitutes.

After two weeks it gets so much better. Hang in there your doing good. The first few weeks you will lose a pound a day then it slows down

I'm in so much pain still. Sometimes getting the pain meds down hurts. I thought I wouldn't be in so much pain. My left side hurts from my chest to my waist. I hope that is normal?

The worst thing right now are the night sweats. Is that normal? I've read some people say it's from the anesthesia, but it's almost been a week?

Call your doctor. That is not normal at all.

I am going to my doctor for a follow up tomorrow morning. I've also been so incredibly tired. I try to get all of my liquids and protien in but I want to sleep so much of the time. The pain in my stomach hurts in my chest under my heart when I breathe deeply or burp. I'm very nervous now..

I turned the corner!! Today was way better and I even tried string cheese and deli chicken! It went down fine. The doc said the night sweats could be because I'm not brearhing deeply at night cause of my pain but as long as I don't have a fever I'm fine. Things are looking up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
