Sleeve Scheduled 11/19/2015

Recommended Posts

I started my journey in May. I did the 6 required medically supervised dietitian visits. Chest xrays, psychological clearance, bloodwork, EKG, etc. Got my approval through insurance 11/3/2015. Scheduled sleeve surgery for 11/19/2015. Today I had my last visit with my surgeon.

Today I started my one week pre-op diet. 3 Protein Shakes per day and all the Water, Crystal Light, SF Jello I can take. Been grouchy, irritable, and a splitting headache all day.

236 was my starting weight in May. Today 228.

Hope tomorrow is better!

Hey brandeebee! Nice to meet another November 19 patient!

Frustrating to me is that the main reason I am doing the surgery is diabetic complications. Today I walked 4.6 miles! And only had Water in that time. And only dropped 36 points. What is the point? Only 3 shakes at 160 calories each and 4 carbs each. Based on the walking, I burned over 2000 calories more than I took in. Uggghh!

On the up side, headache gone, not feeling foggy anymore. But still kinda grouchy.

Best wishes brandeebee!

Hello meganliz0824! Another November 19 club member!

Are you doing a pre-op diet too? Any headaches or moodiness if so?

I so wish I could take Advil. My legs and feet are sure feeling the walk we did. I have a large dog and he walked with me (and my hubby). I am taking a warm bath to ease my aches. Dog and hubby both sound asleep in the living room, and both snoring. Hahaha!

It's definitely not easy being on the pre op diet! I keep reminding myself why I am doing this and it helps for the motivation to keep going. I no longer feel hungry, just tired. I went to my sister's birthday party tonight and was surrounded by tons of food (not easy to do and it smelled so yummy) but I was good. I just kept drinking my flavored water. We're so close and we can do this!!!!

I don't think I could handle a party like you did. You must be super strong!

I was able to arrange to work remotely during the pre-op period. Told my boss I'd be cranky. Little did I know...

It's just after midnight where I live. It's the 15th officially. I can't believe it. 4 more days??

Hubby and I went to a big warehouse store and stocked up on Protein shakes, SF Jello, and broth. With Thanksgiving being around the corner, they had a big sale on chicken broth.

Are you going to feel up to a big family dinner this year. I bowed out of invites from friends and family last month. Just don't want to be tempted, yanno?

No pre op diet for me. Just clears for the day before. And eat lightly this week. I have been doing a 6 month diet but nothing for specific to pre op.

I also have the problem with no advil. I get headaches a lot and only excedrin works but can't take that either. Limited to tylenol.

My sisters and I either do thanksgiving dinner or Xmas dinner celebration. Luckily we're doing Xmas dinner this year. So I don't have to worry about being around all that food.

I don't know about super strong but I am super determined!

I worked 3 days last week and am now on medical leave from work. I should be prepping for surgery and post surgery but I've been sleeping a lot. I'll muster up my motivation for that on Monday. LOL

meganliz0824 - I was told only Tylenol for me too. Had to go buy some as I don't normally us it. It doesn't seem to help me for headaches or aches/pains. I haven't discussed post-op pain meds with the surgeon, other than to tell him I am allergic to codeine. I was told 1 or 2 nights inpatient, so I guess I'll cross that bridge when the time comes. I did buy some liquid adult Tylenol to have on hand.

brandeebee - you are lucky to be out before surgery. I say sleep all you want! I have to work until 5pm the night before. Dunno how I will sleep. And forget sleeping in a hospital. It is so noisy at all hours and the 2am vital signs check sure doesn't help!

Made I think a big mistake with last "meal" of the day. I forgot to take the Multivitamin and Calcium citrate. Sipped the shake. Worked on laundry. Then it dawned on me that I forgot the pills.

Took them with 16 ounces of Water.

Went to bed an hour later. Woke up and hour later and made it to the bathroom just in time to hurl.

Won't make that mistake again. Uggg!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
