On my 2nd fill and still can eat almost anything?

Recommended Posts

Hi out there, My surgery was 4/4/07. I followed instructions to a tee but after the alloted time I started eating normally again. It feels as though I have no restriction and I have been filled twice. The second one just a 4 days ago and still hungry and can still eat large quantities.

Can anyone tell me how many cc's they have had. I am up to 2 cc.

After my 1st nfill, nothing. After my second, which by the way my dr put the needle in the port and attempted to pull out the Fluid from the first and surprise! There was none! So now I am on my 2nd fill (really my 1st). I got 1.5cc's and yes I do feel the restriction. When your dr. gave you the fill, did they pull back the fluid to make sure it was in the port? Good luck! Can you feel the restriction as they are filling it? If that happened to you when they missed your port how exactly do they know they have the port in the first place.

No, you cannot feel any restriction as they are filling the port; if you could, I would have none that the dr missed the first time. What I have learned is that when you get a fill, the dr should insert the Fluid, then pull it all back into the syringe. If nothing comes back, he missed. Does your dr do that?

It took me 5 fills before I got a lot of restriction. It's different for everyone, some people don't need a fill at all, while others take a lot. I usually get tighter after 3 weeks too!

that is why they have the x-rays. and make sure that that screen is right in front of you so that you can see how the barium and Water is going down. pretty interesting. but he was inserting the saline, i also took a cup of barium. he asked how did it fell going down.

now my other question is, i am wondering if my doc. lied about how much saline he put in!!!

so iluvharleys you say that you won't actually fill that restrictions until after a couple of weeks, even if you had gotten a first fill? i am very confused about it because i still can pretty much eat anything

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
