Looking for Post-Op Track(ing) Stars

Recommended Posts

At 8 months post RNY I've realized I need to keep better track of my nutrients. I've written all of my food in a journal since surgery but haven't tracked nutrients for several months. Started tracking on My Fitness Pal and found I'm over....way over, where I should be. I've always struggled with making satisfying low calorie, low fat meals, apparently I still do. Now that I have quantity under better (not perfect) control my next hurdle is meal planning for optimum health. I'd love to see how others do it. It being eating 60-100 grams of Protein and 60-100 grams of carbs while staying satisfied and eating whole, less processed foods. If you do it dairy free even better....yogurt, cottage cheese, milk and I have issues. Please, please, please share your daily menus with me! If you use MFP and have journaled your diet and are willing to share it please friend me, my username is Goodnuff there too. Thanks.

I think we are already friends on there (I'm Twasarunbyfruiting) so you are welcome to take a look at what I've been eating. I find eating pieces of a meal one at a time to be much easier. For example, I'll eat a turkey meatball and a colby jack cheese stick for a meal, then in a few hours I might have the second turkey meatball (a serving is two meatballs, 12 grams of protein) and an ounce of fat free cottage cheese. Then later perhaps a coupe slices of an apple with a tablespoon of Peanut Butter. It's so much easier for me to just eat very measurable things.

Thanks @@Cervidae, I sent you an mfp friend request this morning. That sounds like a great way to keep on track.

Keeping track and measuring everything on mfp has honestly helped me so much. I have a really hard time keeping myself accountable with everything but especially food. But I've noticed a huge improvement in how easy it is to set a goal and keep it everyday when I track it. Making the measuring itself easier just improved the whole experience.

I agree. It takes a ton of commitment to keep going and I'm always finding new areas that need improvement, diet, exercise, etc. I'm hoping this will keep the weight loss on track and help me in maintenance once I get there. You are doing amazing by the way.

The only way I would be where I am is by tracking everything I put in my mouth good or bad. It allows me to make much better choices.

@@goodnuff and @@Cervidae I am on MFP if you would like to connect and share journals just send me a friends request. My name is Judyrhino2. I try to be consistant with my journaling, but these holidays are really making it hard to stay on track with journaling. I could definitely use some more buddies on MFP.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
