Husband/Wife Bypass TOGETHER?!?

Recommended Posts

Hi! My husband is now wanting to have the gastric bypass done as well. Does anyone know how long they suggest for partners to have the surgery apart??

Thanks!

I don't think there's any written in stone guidelines for how long they should be apart. But I'd schedule them at least a couple of weeks apart so one could help the other with recovery, if needed. And if you have kids and such, you'll still have one around to take care of them. Plus it might be tough if both are off work at the same time. Just some things to consider.

Two or three weeks sounds about right to me too. How exciting that he wants to become healthy and go through this wonderful, life-affirming process with you! Congratulations to you both!

My wife and I both had RNy gastric bypass. She on Sept 22 and myself a week later Sept 29. I would not do it any other way. It was suggested that we wait 4 weeks but have found that having our post op dietary plans that closely synced allows for easier compliance. We are now 7 and 6 weeks post and doing great.

@@creativediff my son and I had our surgeries the same day. We both had surgery on aug.14 and we're there as a help to each other and it all was fine. It was nice to have someone who was going through what I was with me. Neither of us had any complications from the surgery so I'm sure that helped to make it easier

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
