Why not mix protein powder with water?

Recommended Posts

Why couldn't I mix Protein Powder with Water and kill two birds with one stone? I would be getting my required Protein plus be getting my needed 60 ounces of water.

Just make sure you do so outside or at least in a well ventilated room away from an open flame or anything that creates a spark. I would also have a fire extinguisher nearby, just in case. :)

Yes, you can include the Water content of the drink towards your daily total.

@ - just remember mixing with milk ups the carbs, calories, fat, etc. I don't particularly like it in Water. I mix with some greek yogurt (and ice/water) to give it a flavor and to get rid of the chalkiness that I seem to taste in just water.

Some mix with almond milk, cashew milk, soy or farmlife.

I guess I was mixing up the idea of Protein being a "meal". I'm getting it. I knew you were supposed to get in your meals without drinking 30 minutes before or after, and I was thinking meals were the source of your Protein, so I was anticipating a problem that probably isn't there. Thanks for clearing it up.

If I recall correctly, my practice's RD told me that all liquids w/o caffeine count toward the day's Water intake. I've taken it upon myself to consider the day's produce intake as 1/2 cup. (It may be that I eat quite a bit more vegetables than do sleeve people.)

I'm pretty sure that most people don't count produce as Water intake. At least, I have never heard of that before.

I always mix my Protein powder with ice and Water.

shake it up in a Blender Bottle and have at it.

Absolutely zero need for any other ingredients to mix it with.

Milk is not needed and juice certainly is counterproductive.

I prefer mixing my unjury with skim milk most of the time, but will occasionally make a shake using a blend of orange and pineapple sugar-free drink mix and a serving of either unflavored or vanilla Protein powder. Using the vanilla makes it like an orange/pineapple dreamsicle :) I also enjoy the Unjury chicken Soup Protein Powder.....a nice change from sweet shakes. Another option is a mocha shake using half and half of vanilla and chocolate powder, skim milk, and a little chilled brewed coffee. I've never mixed the vanilla, chocolate, or unflavored powder with just plain Water and drank it. It doesn't sound appealing at all.

I use Syntrax Nectars and actually prefer all the fruit flavors mixed with Water. I cant imagine mixing them with milk.

This. Syntrax Nectars are great for getting Protein *and* Water. I usually mix mine up with more water then they call for, just for that reason.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
