Seeing large amounts of food make me feel sick

Recommended Posts

I wonder if you are looking at the food, becoming hungry and creating excess acid in your stomach and that is making you physically ill.

The sight and smells make me nauseated sometimes post-op. Perhaps that's what is going on?

@@PayItForward -- You know exactly "...how they can can eat so much food at one time." How else do you suppose you arrived in a position where you would wonder?

"Just looking at all the food on everyone's plate makes me feel sick....Anyone else have this problem?" It's not uncommon for WLS people to be judgmental after the fact. When I find myself judging, yes, it's a problem. Since I don't feel physically nauseated or heave, no, I don't feel sick and, therefore, don't have that problem.

"I live alone so I really don't see others eating unless I go out for a meal." How quickly they forget.

To those objecting to outsized portions, skip the low-priced chains and go to high-end restaurants. You'll get portions that are far more reasonable.

@@PayItForward - I made a similar post to this when I was only a few weeks out. My parents were eating salads and I got nauseous just from the repetitive sound of their forks scraping the bowls and the somehow exaggerated crunching of their chewing. I also think the super sweet smell of the salad dressing didn't help...but a lot of people replied like the ones you're getting, how after surgery we get more sensitive to smells and tastes and can develop food aversions.

All of that is true and I agree, but I do think you and I experienced a similar thing. In my case, it luckily got much better once I was able to eat a little more at a time and feel like I was participating in a meal as opposed to just drinking mine while everyone else ate theirs.
