Frustrated...pain and acid reflux

Recommended Posts

So I had my band placed 3 years ago, right away I got pregnant. My daughter is now two and I am so ready to start over. I had my first fill last Thursday. Since then I have been having pain with liquids and soft foods. Last night I woke up feeling like I was drowning and chocking from the acid reflux. The heart burn is so bad now I am sleeping in a recliner . I see the doctor tomorrow for some Fluid removed. I am so discouraged. I just want this to work. I am tired of living overweight. I have tried everything. I'm about to give up.

Hope you can get a band adjustment just right for you. It is an illusive point and fills can take time to work... Or get looser in time. Seems like we are all different.

I'm ready for a fill. Hoping next week I can get in. Have a call in.

You sound like you need an unfill to not be uncomfortable at night and feel better????

Best of luck!

Thank you. She took the Fluid out this morning so I can hydrate myself. Have to wait a month for another fill. Bummed. Losing 9 pounds in one week was nice but I was so weak from dehydration and only consumed 400 cal a day with much struggle. I just pray for patience and hope this works. It's been a long three years since being banded and I just want to use it to its ability. Wishing I would have went with the sleeve :(

My doctor won't discuss revision until I actually give my band a real chance

@@lace131 -- I'm glad you finally went in to loosen your band and sorry that you had such a miserable week.

Since you didn't refer to it, I'll say that most practices, when doing an adjustment to add Fluid, have the patient drink some Water to be sure it goes down comfortably. It is possible that it doese, but later or the next day, the story changes (I think that's rare, though). If you ever again find after you're home that you can't swallow comfortably, call the office and get back in quickly.

I think your surgeon's take on giving it a chance makes sense; you're only now beginning to put it to use. Last week's incident was bad, but not necessarily an indication of anything. Maybe some time in the future there will be problems, but who knows?

What's happening with reflux now?

I'm with PINKGIRL, you probably will revise or (like I did) have the band removed. It's been a year for me and I still need to revise to another surgery. I can so relate to drowning during sleep with acid reflux and having to sit up a while. I was afraid to go back to sleep, knowing I had to go to work in the morning...

I started having acid reflux and felt like in was drowning when I would go to sleep also. I just had the Fluid removed yesterday. They said I'm prob inflamed also from all the visiting I've had been doing. I felt better with Water last night and decided to have Soup. Well as u can imagine woke up and had to vomit because it was to much. So it seems I won't be able to eat much. Water is still ok right now. I'm hoping that all is just inflamed and it get better so I can eat a decent meal. Does anyone know how long it took them after these symptoms to be able to real food?

I don't know how long you've been banded, but I never overcame it. Every time I was filled, the acid was horrible. I eventually had it removed and I hated that.

I was banded July 15, 2015. This just started November 20. I had .5 cc removed which was all of the Fluid in my band. I still can't eat or drink without it hurting or vomit back up. I'm going for an esphogram tomorrow. I'm thinking if it shows anything I'm going to want to remove the band. I can't live like this. I lost 55lbs and I want to continue to lose weight but I want to be able to eat healthy too.

You may have luck in the long run... It is a learning curve with the band mostly in control.

Sorry about your reflux. I hope it can be controlled....

Often less Fluid helps some.... Liquids for days helps others.... pills and liquids have some relief.

Some reviseTo other procedures.

Best of luck calming obesity no matter which direction you go!

I hope you feel better, try drinking peppermint tea. It's great for tummy pain, gas and nausea.

You may still find great deals on Holiday peppermint candies. I always carry them in my purse and help lots.

Take good care and stay hydrated!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
