pattij106 this has been happening to me. I've now added silicea to my supplements list which helps generate growth and my hair dresser has advised me to use sulphate free Shampoo. I've found the shampoo to dry my hair out a bit but the silicea has definitely helped.

Good luck...

Biotin will help promote new growth but won't stop it falling out. Many WLS patients do see Hair loss, sometime substantial. ???? some times it lasts a few months sometimes longer. No easy way to get it to stop. a lot of women opt for a short hair cut during this time. Good luck.

You hair falls out in cycles. Any type of stress can make your hair fall out. This is call telogen effluvium. I have hypothyroidism and my hair has gone through this many times when I have been low. I also went through this with my 3 pregnancies, gastric bypass and now lap band. Here is what you need to do:

Take about 1000th of Biotin

Take 500mg (2x's a day) of Evening Primrose Oil

Make sure you are getting your Protein in.

Take your B12, b6,and b5

B Vitamins are essential for your hair.

I am not a doctor or nurse, but I havev researched this subject because of my situation.

If you have anymore questions, just ask.

I can't tell you how much stuff/vitamins I tried to stop my hair from falling out.

What finally worked for me was liquid silica and powder marine collagen. I add both to my Water.< /p>

My Hair loss has stopped and the dry brittleness is going away.

What happens is when we lose hair, more than usual, it can be because of the exaggerated conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone at the hair follicle. Evening Primrose Oil acts as an inhibitor for this conversion, therefore, keeping the hair from falling out. I hope I have explained this well. Anyway, I know it has helped me many times.

I know you have gotten some good responses, but I just thought I would throw in my two cents: Biotin, zinc, folic acid ... and minoxidil. My hair has always been thin, but it got a lot worse with the weight loss. It now is a lot better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
