Can I take regular multivitamins?

Recommended Posts

My bariatric program told me to take chewables, which made sense in the beginning when I couldn't ingest much. I've been using a Vitamin Patch, but I feel like the old Multivitamin pills I took pre-op made me feel better. Think it would be okay to start using those again, now that I can swallow pills?

I started out with a horse pill bariatric Vitamin that in spite of its budget breaking cost did not want to go down, and came back up more often than not. On top of that I was taking B12, D3, and Calcium. I switched to Flintstones chewables for a while, but found a Multi-Vitamin at Walgreens formulated for women over 50.

My labs have been spot on, except this last time two weeks ago. I was slightly below range on Folate, B12, and D3. My cholesterol was slightly high, but 20 points less than it was three months ago.

So, I will stay with the Walgreens multi for the time being and pick up D3, B12, and Calcium. The D3 and Calcium are available in chewables and that is what I will get.

I take a regular generic one a day type Vitamin with added D at the advice of my Bariatric team. All of my labs have been great.

I also take a generic Vitamin D, B1 because my Thiamin was low and calcium citrate.

My B12 was so high they pulled me off for 6 months.

I was told that I could take ANY form of Vitamin as long as I was taking the required doses. I take chew two Centrum C Multivitamin/multi-mineral everyday and have since a week after surgery. I don't understand why you doing so would present a problem.

This is one of those questions, like alcohol and caffeine, etc., You ask 10 different people, you will get 10 different answers...

Really comes down to what you can do, and what your Dr. says you should do.

There are people here who cannot tolerate swallowing pills whole....myself, not only do I take a large multi-Vitamin whole, but other supplements as well....plus certain oral meds I need to take....

But just because I can tolerate it with no problems, does not make it Ok for the next person to do so.

Again, a lot of these questions there is no right or wrong....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
