Who tried to talk you out of Mexico?

Recommended Posts

In fact, Alex hand picked the Doctors. Here is a picture of them on his last visit to Tijuana.

From Left to Right: Dr. Francisco Zavalza, dr. Jesus Lopez, Alex Brecher and Dr. Carlos Altamirano.

Please contact me if you or your family would like to speak to one of the Doctors.

I think the doctor referenced above wad Rodriguez.

No one tried to talk me out of it. Everyone that knows me knows I am a resourceful, intelligent person and they know I make smart decisions. My parents and other family members have been going to Mexico for medical and dental care for years, so they don't have any ignorant, misinformed prejudices. My friends were jealous I got to spend a few sunny days in TJ in the middle of winter. My PCP and OB/Gyn are both so impressed with my experience and outcome that they are now recommending my surgeon to their patients that don't have insurance that covers WLS.

I'll admit it... I was looking into Mexico at first.

I almost went thru with it too.

Then my hubby and I had a real talk and he said that he was really feeling sick about me taking that chance of getting such a major surgery out of country.

What if something goes very wrong, like complications afterwards? We weren't sure if BC Canada would cover it. And not sure if we would be covered if I had to go back to Mexico.

It cost more in the end (but really not by much) to have it done in Quebec Canada, but it's my health and my life so it was worth it.

In the grand scheme of things a few thousand extra was mere pennies compared to my life.

I wasn't willing to risk it.

And don't regret a single thing.

But I'm not dissing surgeries in Mexico or anything - please don't think that I am.

I did have the lap - band done in 2005 in Monterey Mexico and it went all perfectly. Only that my body started rejecting the band a year later so had to have it removed. So I am not saying "don't go to Mexico!!"

I just chose not to this time with the RNY.

No matter where you go it'll be nerve wracking but it's so worth it!

Good luck to you when, what and wherever you decide upon.

My husband seriously just told me to get life insurance first. I'm so sick of being treated like the village idiot by people who haven't done one bit of research.

Amen!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
