Mz.W 17 Posted November 11, 2015 Hello Everyone, I Just completed open enrollment, and my insurance(Cigna) kicks in January 1,2016 covers bariatric surgery. I've reviewed everything that Cigna requires before approval. I wanted to know has anyone started their list of requirements early with PCP? I currently have Aetna and want to start my 3 month supervised diet, so hopefully I can have everything completed, submitted and approved to have surgery in March. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
reree6898 1,164 Posted November 11, 2015 I have BCBS and I didn't start with my surgeon till July but because I had been doing weight watchers since February and my pcp signed off on my weight loss efforts it counted toward my 6 month requirements for my insurance. Mz.W 17 Posted November 11, 2015 That's great.... I've been seeing my PCP for weight loss as well, I'm gonna see if Cigna would take that once it goes into effect.

So you were not being technically supervised but had been doing this on your own? I have done weightwatchers and Atkins but idk if doc will sign off on it or not Excited for you to be closer than I am to getting it done!!

Yeah I had seen my doctor for other things off and on during the time frame that I was doing the weight watchers so she had no problem doing the letter and paperwork for the insurance company. I was approved and sleeved on 9/28/15. Hope everything works out for you!!

I'm not quite sure how the friends thing works on here cause I get on through the app on my phone but your welcome to friend me or whatever ????. I know BCBS can vary a bit in different states but mines through TN. From what I have heard most all BCBS plans want 180 days of the supervised diet. Have you called to check the requirements for your plan? I did that first and made them email it to me so I had it in writing.

LadyWarren 57 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) If you have BCBSIL they no longer have a medical assisted diet requirement. Just the Psych and Nutrition visits are required. But many people enjoyed their six month diets they met new people and learned lots of info. People also said it goes by quick.
