Interesting article. I know for me that I have fewer doctor visits so less copays, less prescriptions I am on and more productivity at work due to more energy. It is a win-win as far as I can see!

I had no co-morbidites, and rarely went to the doctor. My total out of pocket for the surgery (including copays) was $2178...comparing to a previous year of only co-pays of less than $100. However, I was starting to notice my blood pressure creeping up and lack of energy, etc. Diabetes and heart disease runs in my family, so that would have been coming soon too. So while it didn't really save $ for me compared to the past, it sure did help my future.

This research is exactly why companies like BCBS has dropped the diet requirements etc. They have realized it is cheaper to get people to surgery sooner rather than later. Long term it saves the whole health system money.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
