Pre-op diet for gastric sleeve.

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 2 of my pre-op diet. I'm going to say this has not been fun. It doesn't help that I have a sinus infection right now. However, I'm trying very hard to stick to my diet! Lord help me!!

I have to drink a shake for Breakfast and lunch. I get a snack in between both shakes. Then a sensible dinner which is very small as well. I am STARVING!!! Mostly I am legitimately hungry and some of it is me missing good food.

I have experienced headaches and kidney pains (I don't have the best kidneys), and dizziness. I've been emotionally stressed over what I can eat and when I can eat it.

Lord help me through this I just need to get through this now. Surgery is Nov. 19th.

I started feeling a lot better on the third day. Hope it works that way for you too.

Also, it won't hurt to have an extra shake if you are really hungry.

You get to eat a snack and dinner? Well, the pre-op liquid diet certainly is an inconvenient right of passage. Our tongue and tummies are insulted by the neglect after years of over-indulgence. Once you are past that third day, it gets a little more bearable. Just remember that the weeks of discomfort before and after surgery, are only temporary, and you come out on the other as a winner. Hang in there.

The pre-op diet is certainly not fun but the hunger will pass. Around day 3 things will settle down and the routine begins. The eating schedule aspect continues after surgery so get used to it. lol

Keep your mind on the prize and before you know it this part will be over. You may even lose a few pounds along the way! You've got this!!

Good luck to you!!! I am currently on Day 4 of my pre-op liquid diet and it is difficult. I've had a headache since I started, but today it has been better.

Stay strong. We can do it!!!

Just remember it's all worth it in the end. I'm 2 months out from surgery and I regret nothing. I've lost 45lb from my hw of 260 and I'm never going back. Chug along and you'll do great.

I'm one week into the pre-op diet and it's been a real challenge for me. I've done a lot of diets in the past that resembled this but it doesn't make it any easier. I didn't realize how much snacking I did till now, such as those little 6 pack crackers, small sleeves of Cookies, etc. I can do anything for a week (I hope). November 18th is just around the corner. A lot of people have said it gets easier after the 3rd day, but not for me. I'm hoping for a quick week.

I started my pre-op diet Sept 30th. My surgeon wanted me to lose 15 lbs before surgery. I have lost 20 so far. I do ok during the day but still struggle with feeling hungry at night & wanting to snack. I try to make healthy choices in the evenings. I keep thinking about the final goal. My surgery date is January 7th. The more I lose & bring down my BMI it improves my recovery & long term success

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
