You know you're relearning how to eat when you're confused by Soup. My plan phase says I can now have lentil soup, vegetable soup, chicken vegetable, chili, minestrone - all no noodles or rice, but many of these are made with liquid. So we're constantly told eating food with liquids is bad. This seems so odd to me then to eat Soups. What gives? Who else can eat soup because I know others have posted it's a no go for them. I can call my Nut, but was just wondering...

I wasn't told not to eat liquids with food so when I eat Soup, I eat soup.

Those of us who were sleeved still have our pyloric valve so we don't have to worry about washing food out of our stomach.

You will get other opinions on these forums.

The best thing to do if you are in doubt, is talk to your own NUT.

I was not restricted from Soup. I just avoid the rice and noodles like just mentioned.

Here is a webpage with a good description of how the pyloric works:

For some reason this link won't post correctly. You may have to copy the url.

I understand what you mean, we are told no liquids 30 minutes before and 30 minutes following a meal, yet Soup is liquid. Never thought about it, you really brought up a good point. I was able to eat cream Soups, maybe that is the difference. Let us know what your NUT says and I will ask mine.

@@jobillandjosh -- If that's what's confusing to you, be glad the list doesn't include alphabet soop. You'd really be thrown into a confused tizzy.

Liquid, as in "not all liquids are forbidden." What is the pot filled with just before the chicken, vegs, lentils, et al. get tossed in?

P.S. Truly genius topic title. Truly.

I see my NUT next week and Soup has confused me too! I plan on asking. I love soup, especially in the Fall/Winter here in New England. It doesn't have to have noodles/potato/rice - anything with lots of veggies!

I never considered Soup a liquid in the sense that NUTs mean. I just considered it a food and treated it as such.

I get confused by the term "Jumbo Shrimp".

I am being too literal. Smacks forehead. I'm only 5 weeks out and am so used to following these explicit guidelines that it's like I cannot think for myself. Thank you!

No worries. You aren't the first to have this dilemma

I consider it a food rather than a liquid. I also use the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup Protein powder and don't worry about it.

...@@jobillandjosh, I wasn't confused by Soup. But now I am! Good point about the liquid. @Inner Surfer Gal, I also am having the sleeve, but the information I was given said not to drink 30 minutes before a meal and up to an hour afterwards. Maybe they give generic info until the actual surgery is performed.

Still doesn't solve the Soup Conundrum.

Okay guys, here's something that will REALLY blow your minds....cereal with milk.

When I was about 7 months out, I decided to deviate from usual protien shake Breakfast and buy some Kashi Cereal. As I was pouring my half cup Cereal and 1/4 cup milk, I felt like a REBEL. food and liquid? TOGETHER?? What ever will become of me?

Oh, I ate the cereal. And it was good. I don't make a habit of it, though ;)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
