Business lunch 2 weeks after surgery...help

Recommended Posts

My birthday is two weeks after surgery and I am not telling my coworkers about the procedure. We go to lunch every year (no exceptions). Any suggestions as to what I should order that will go down easily? Any suggestions for the type of restaurant?

The biggest question is what will your diet be at 2 weeks post-op. Many surgeons are totally different. I cannot predict what your surgeon will have you on.

If I were you, I would absolutely lie like a rug and develop a very nasty stomach virus, or to explain why you were off work, say you had hernia surgery, that way you can either postpone your lunch for another two to four weeks until you are certain to be on solid food (some surgeons have you on regular food at 4 weeks, some at 6 weeks post-op), or if you choose to go ahead with the dinner, then you can just order some Soup and explain you are taking it easy after either the stomach virus, or the surgery, whichever you choose.

My solution idea is to CHATTER. Talk, talk and talk. Eat some, maybe push the food around, make it look like you ate more than you did.

My suggestion for food would be the Soup.< /p>

I know this is going a bit far, but I know of a "closet bandster" that would "pocket" the food in her napkin and she took huge bites to make the most out of her "pocketing". Although if you get caught you will have to come clean (which happened to her) because someone will think you have a serious eating disorder and may try and get you help.

Thanks for the advice. I am thinking when I say something to my nosy coworkers about being on a diet or whatever they watch EVERYTHING. I am just going to order something. Push the food around pretending to eat and then eat the Soup. I'll be no one will notice. If all else fails.... my tummy will suddenly hurt and that will be my explanation. Thanks everyone... I was so stressing about that.

I have a friend who is a closet bandster, and she suddenly had to have some "places" removed from her throat. Lucky for her they turned out to be fine!!! (wink-wink) But while she 'healed' she was on strict liquids for a couple of weeks, then slowly led into foods more difficult to swallow. It covered her, for the entire time. And she now says that something to do with the procedure, causes her throat to fill and hurt if she tries to eat to much, so the weight loss has been a wonderful side effect. She says it worked!

Me? I told EVERYONE!!!! I do not lie well, and remember things even more poorly, so I knew I could never keep it straight!!!

Good Luck in your surgery, and in your recovery eating!

Kat

I would also sugest Soup. Pick a resturant that is know for great Soups. So you can say OH I just Love this Soup that is all I want.

Me I cant keep a secret. and I cant lie worth a damn. So everyone in my life knows. It is kind of nice having people interested in the surgery and wowed on my progress. I think it keeps me on track too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
