Severe shoulder pain

Recommended Posts

I am on the floor in pain in my shoulder area. This has been going on since my surgery, but not to this degree. I have read that the gas in the shoulder is normal. I dont think this is gas. It is a severe burning pain, that esculates as I swallow and feels as if it is following the food all the way down to the stomach. I stopped eating immediately in fear it would get worst. Totally lost my appetite. Anyone else having this problem? I'm about to go to the ER if it doesn't stop soon.

I had bad shoulder pain and it turned out to be a bad leak and an abcess. Go to the ER.

@@NoMoreFatGuy What other symptoms did you have. My pain went away after I stopped eating. I googled and discovered there many people that have had this same problem, It is due to eating too fast or too much, which causes the diaphram to expand causing pain in the shoulder area. At least this is what I found on the internet. My doctor is telling me its just gas pain, but it was not anything like I ever experienced before. I pray it never returns.

I had no other symptoms until after I was admitted to the hospital

Same thing here but the pain started high at the top of my stomach radiating up into my left arm. Felt like I was having a heart attack. Every drink or bite of food I took was excruciating, but the pain never stopped. Turned out I had 2 pockets of Fluid. After a week of pain and discomfort I had to go back to the ER and it had become an absess. That started a week's long stay in the hospital.

So the moral of my story is even after you go to the ER, if you haven't found any relief in a few days go back. 2 weeks without food or liquids equal a very sick puppy. I had no idea how ill I was until they transported me from one hospital ER to the hospital where my surgeon practiced. Praying for a good outcome for you!

I should point out that my doctor told me it was gas pain and not to worry for a week and a half. When I finally went to the ER I almost died in ICU. Go to the ER. Better safe than sorry.

Could be acid reflux. However, if you are concerned about a potential complication then go to the ER as has been suggested here by multiple people.

Based on the fact there has been no reply from Runner1 in a few days I would say that it was not gas pain and the ER found something else was wrong. Sure do hope your getting the medical attention you need and will be back home soon. Good luck with everything.

For those who mentioned leaks did the Dr not do a leak test after surgery?

Not for me. Not only did I not get a leak study, for a week and a half the doc told me nothing was wrong. He was way off

@@NoMoreFatGuy sorry to hear about your challenges. I hope you are much better. What advice would you give to an upcoming sleever? Did your doctor leave a drain in?

I did see where Runner1 showed last active Nov 12, 2015 but I am not sure if any posts were made or that means that she was on the site that day. I hope she is better.

I had no drain. My doctor basically pushed me out the door after. I ended up going to a different hospital a week and a half later and had 7 drains put in and spent 6 weeks in the ER. I left the hospital at 7.5 weeks with a drain bag. Went back in several times for various procedures and ended up having my whole stomach removed when the leak never healed.

My advice would be to make sure you get a leak study before you leave the hospital. Also, if you feel unusual pain go in, don't take a chance. Other than that, not much advice. What happened to me was a fluke but the trauma I experienced was because I didn't trut my instincts that something was wrong.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
