I'm only 6 weeks out, but I'm doing fine with granola bars, we like the yogurt iced ones.

I am justin shock!! Maybe I didn't read enough or something; but all the foods all of you listed were on my "never to be eaten again" list!!! Can I really have granola bars when I have a problem with chicken??? Someone please tell me why I haven't heard about all this? Or is it just too soon for me? Maybe I have been so hung up with things I CAN'T have that I really don't know what I CAN have.....I need to read more! Thanks for the ideas!

Nancy What was on that list of yours? The only thing on my NEVER to have again was NO CARBONATION! Other then that, I can eat what I please. Some Docs I have rread will give post op instructions based on the Gastric Bypass..could this be what your Dr. did with al lthe NO NO's?I was told from Inamed told me the reason that every Dr. is so different with post op instructions is when the band was approved there was no set standards for post op diet that each Dr. and their nutritionalist made up there own per say Some of the Dr.s who proctor will pass theirs along to the Dr.'s they have proctored. this is why we see such a variable degree of post op diets among all of us.

I was told no popcorn, nuts, soda or carbonation, asparagus ( which I eat all of the time, just really cook good), celery, coconut, rhubarb, nuts, straws and spicey or fried foods.

I have had just a very few of nuts in something but chewed them very very well. I ate one peice of popcorn and chew chew chew - no problem.

I undertand how myself and all of the other newbees were surprised by all of your answers.

But I also think that everyone has to find what they can tolorate and what they cannot.

Many of these foods are 'no no's' because of their fibrous nature. Many, however, have nothing to do with tolerance - they are not weight loss friendly, plain and simple. White starches just dont help us to lose weight and that is the reason we became banded, after all.

It would, however, be nice, if there were one set standard, such as Inamed recommendations for the band, but it does seem that the bypass 'diet' (which we were trying to avoid) is creeping it's way in since so many new docs are switching from bypass to lapband.
