Surgery Aborted (Please help)...

Recommended Posts

Anyone undergo the sleeve w a bmi of 30? If so, how did it go?

That's a fairly low BMI for weight loss surgery. I believe most insurance companies cover it at 35 or above with co-morbitities.

Good luck!

@ - How are you doing? Did you find another surgeon? Apologies if I missed a post about that.

Either way, just wanted to say outstanding work so far! Your loss pre-op is wonderful! Keep up the work! Hope you have found a resolution? For what it's worth, my suggestion would have been to find another surgeon also.

Anyone have their surgery aborted during the procedure because the surgeon couldn't inflate the abdomen enough to operate safely?

If so why?

What was your outcome?

What did you do afterwards?

What was surgeons course of action?

Thanks for all the feedback!!

I feel your disappointment.

My surgery was aborted as well - but for a different reason (they found and removed a tumor). Sorry you're going through this! No fun.

I'm doing okay. Still losing weight on my regime without the surgery. I have not found another surgeon yet. Doing some research about whom to go to. I'm going to continue to lose and then see another surgeon after the holidays. Just want to keep my groove going at the moment and not have it interrupted. Other than that, I am in good spirits and forging ahead one day at a time, one step in front of the other. It's definitely been an emotional roller coaster. Thank you!! :)

Wow! How are you doing? It's never fun regardless of the reason why. It's an emotional thing to plan for and then seem to have it fall apart. Silver lining in your case though, is that they caught that. But regardless of whatever the reason for aborting it was, I won't give up. I've come too far on my own to throw it all away. I'm still losing weight post failed surgery, and will continue to do so until I decide whether to do another surgery attempt (with current surgeon or other), or just lose the remaining on my own.

Thank you!!

Good for you! Many blessings to you on your continued trek. Hope it all comes together for you.

The tumor ended up being benign - but it could've caused big problems down the road (as you imagine) if it hadn't been caught. Because it isn't malignant, I got rescheduled for surgery and should get the real thing done next week - Thursday the 17th. I'm pretty happy about that news :) I've been through the whole range of emotions over this process.

The positive thing this time is that I feel way less nervous because I've already been through the recovery once! Haha.

That's true about being through the recovery once, it should make it easier the second time.

I'm in the hospital now. Second surgery was yesterday. Everything went perfectly. I am in much more pain than before - and the limits on being able to drink is a challenge. Overall I'm much much less comfortable than before. Without a doubt, they took SOMETHING out of me!

Cheers

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
