Smell of food makes me ill.

Recommended Posts

I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out I was fine up until about 2-3 days ago. Watching others eat fast food or even just normal food was ok with me. All of a sudden anytime someone cooks or brings food home, I literally dry heave. It only makes my appetite problem worse. Since I'm already having a very hard time eating anything. Today I've only had one 80 calorie yogurt. Food disgusts me right now, and I'm not liking this feeling.

I had a similar issue early on. It passed pretty quickly. I just had to force myself to drink my Protein drinks and Water. Sipping chicken broth seasoned with rosemary & thyme helped settle my stomach.

Yes! I went through this a couple months ago. I would gag just thinking about food! For me, it was half mental, half unusual symptoms of a gallbladder attack. I ended up coming off food for a few days and receiving IV nutrition just to give my body time to rest from the nausea and dry heaving. They ended up asking me to indulge in certain foods that had nostalgia/warm feelings attached to it, which would seem counter-productive after weight loss surgery, but it was to ease me back into tolerating food again. So, I lived on Peanut Butter crackers for a couple weeks, and while I still can't tolerate many things, I no longer gag at the smell/sight/thought of food.

I had a brief spell of that in the beginning too. I also use to get grossed out at the size of everyone else's portions. It did pass. Now I feel completely "normal"

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
