Post-op and crazy puppy!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am new here and in the process of getting sleeved. I am hoping for a December surgery date.

My question is, has anyone had surgery that has a young hyper puppy? I am worried that he may be too hyper to stay home with my right after surgery. Has anyone experienced this? I have no idea how I will feel once I am home, but I can imagine that I won't be able to take care of my puppy. He's a complete mommas boy and always has to be on or around me. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Dogs still sleep a lot. I had a lot of energy but I also got tired fast. You might be like that.

Does he jump on your stomach and walk on you?

I had a puppy when I did my surgery in May (still have him but he is a little older now). A pillow on your stomach or in your lap at all times is a must. This will deter him/her from jumping on you.

I don't have a puppy but I have cats who love to sleep on my tummy. I had to put a pillow on my tummy an then it wasn't bad when they wanted to cuddle

If you get a December date, that gives you a month to train the puppy not to jump on you or any other people. It's a good lesson for the rest of his life so why not start now! There are a ton of YouTube videos on the subject. I looked up "train puppy not to jump" . Here's one, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLeGDj6WOCE.

Good luck!

Hello I was sleeved on 8/17/2015 I had a 18 week old English bulldog and a nine year old at home. He loved me being home and took him out walking when I went out. I did have my sons home helping I would say work on training now. I had a pillow on my belly when I was on sitting on the couch just in case he jumped on me.

I have a 3 year old 95 pound chocolate lab "puppy". I arranged for some help in walking him after my surgery. He doesn't jump up on people, but he does pull when being walked.

I think I will have to do something similar. How are you feeling 5 days post op?

Maybe you could get him in a dog obedience class before your surgery?

For walking around the house right after your surgery, a walker would protect you from jumping puppy. That said, I had someone in the house to take care of the dogs right after my surgery, and NEVER had then in the same room if I was laying down.

Thank you for asking. I was still sore and very tired at five days. Today is day seven and I feel much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
