caines530 14 Posted November 8, 2015 Hello everyone. I am new here and in the process of getting sleeved. I am hoping for a December surgery date. My question is, has anyone had surgery that has a young hyper puppy? I am worried that he may be too hyper to stay home with my right after surgery. Has anyone experienced this? I have no idea how I will feel once I am home, but I can imagine that I won't be able to take care of my puppy. He's a complete mommas boy and always has to be on or around me. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted November 8, 2015 Dogs still sleep a lot. I had a lot of energy but I also got tired fast. You might be like that. Does he jump on your stomach and walk on you?
caines530 14 Posted November 8, 2015 Yes! He will jump, stand, run, sit, all of the above lol
MzB 297 Posted November 8, 2015 I had a puppy when I did my surgery in May (still have him but he is a little older now). A pillow on your stomach or in your lap at all times is a must. This will deter him/her from jumping on you.
Sophie74656 1,572 Posted November 8, 2015 I don't have a puppy but I have cats who love to sleep on my tummy. I had to put a pillow on my tummy an then it wasn't bad when they wanted to cuddle

byebyedarkpassenger 203 Posted November 9, 2015 (edited) If you get a December date, that gives you a month to train the puppy not to jump on you or any other people. It's a good lesson for the rest of his life so why not start now! There are a ton of YouTube videos on the subject. I looked up "train puppy not to jump" . Here's one, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLeGDj6WOCE. Good luck! Edited November 9, 2015 by byebyedarkpassenger

sshawk69 17 Posted November 9, 2015 Hello I was sleeved on 8/17/2015 I had a 18 week old English bulldog and a nine year old at home. He loved me being home and took him out walking when I went out. I did have my sons home helping I would say work on training now. I had a pillow on my belly when I was on sitting on the couch just in case he jumped on me. SleeveSoon 191 Posted November 9, 2015 I have a 3 year old 95 pound chocolate lab "puppy". I arranged for some help in walking him after my surgery. He doesn't jump up on people, but he does pull when being walked.
JupiterinVirgo 846 Posted November 28, 2015 I have a very young, very hyper pug puppy and she is staying at my moms because there's no way I have the energy right now, five days post op!

I think I will have to do something similar. How are you feeling 5 days post op?
Ryan TN 348 Posted November 28, 2015 Maybe you could get him in a dog obedience class before your surgery?
Briardlady 73 Posted November 28, 2015 For walking around the house right after your surgery, a walker would protect you from jumping puppy. That said, I had someone in the house to take care of the dogs right after my surgery, and NEVER had then in the same room if I was laying down.
