Hello,

My experience at the Cleveland Clinic was great. I got banded on 9/23/03, I found everyone to be helpful and the the rooms nice. I can't imagine eating two pork chops, stuffing and corn. Emily told us to stay away from corn and celery when we do start on regular foods. Dr. Rosenthal has us on liquids still, we are supposed to have something every three hours and I am having trouble doing that, I have no appetite so far. I honestly hope it never comes back. I am down 14 pounds in a week and I am thrilled.

When did you start eating regular foods? Did you ever lose your appetite?

Just courious! Good luck on your weight loss.

Yeah, I lost my appetite at the beginning. Just think of what your insides went through a week ago. It will come back, just hope it's later than sooner. Anyway, I know Emily said to stay away from corn, but a little can't hurt, as long as I really chew. Another thing is that Emily has given us a diet, but I did this surgery so I don't have to diet anymore. I love meats, so I will always have that first, BUT, if I only eat meat, I'll probably need like 4 pork chops. I am practically eating what I want, had some Cookies the other day, and usually eat for desert a sugar free fudge pop. Lost another 3 pounds in a week before my fill. Speaking of which, I had my first fill yesterday, no big deal. I still need a little more, but right now I am on liquids for the next 3 days. That should really boost weight loss. Again, good luck to you guys.

Hello all.

I am in Jacksonville, Fl. I am going to be banded by Dr. Szomstein in the Cleveland Clinic Weston. Tentative date is Dec 7 but I am praying for an earlier date. So far so good... got all my testing done and now I sit and wait.

Can't wait to be banded.

Diane

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
