Quick intro and question about weight limit

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I'm excited to be here. Due to vacation restrictions at work I'm unable to schedule my sleeve until April 2016. That's ok because I have lots of time to read these forums, learn, and lose! I've done a three week fast before so I can't imagine doing the liquids will phase me at all.

I'm planning for Dr. Altamirano, flying first class to San Diego. If there is a 10 pound weight limit after surgery, how do you manage your bag at the airport? I would like to at least bring my tablet, if not my laptop, but will still need to check a bag. If I pick it up off the carousel am I going to do some damage?

Thanks much.

I would think if you were standing next to someone who looked young and strong, you could say, "could you grab that bag for me please?"

Also, if someone were to approach me and say "I just had surgery (or "I'm injured"), could you grab my bag off the carousel?", I would be happy to do it.

Make sure it's on wheels.

I believe there are usually airport personel near the carousels to help with that if needed. I would ask when you check your bag or call the airline and arrange for a meet and assist.

I had to fly due to a family emergency before I was cleared to lift over 10 lbs. Like @@Sharon1964 suggested above, I just asked a guy standing nearby at the baggage carousel if he could grab my suitcase for me because I'd just had surgery. I think his reply was something like, "I'd be happy to do it even if you hadn't just had surgery!" I had one of the smaller rolling suitcases with wheels that swivel, so it was easy for me to pull it through the airport.

Thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to get it in my car and out again once I'm home. And then up the stairs. Sheesh. I may be leaving it in the car for a couple of weeks.

You should consolidate and pack up only the necessities, 2 pants 2 shirts etc. remember that the hospital and hotel may provide some of you toiletries, and you won't ado same picking up more, also you could utilize any valet services, good luck

How are you getting home from the airport? I wasn't technically cleared to drive for 2 weeks (although I did).

Um......I'll likely be driving myself unless I can arrange for my daughter to help out. Everyone thinks I'm going on vacation and I'm not telling anyone what's really going on. I'm not going to drive if I've taken anything for pain or am even slightly off, but that's my plan at this point.

I too wondered about this issue, specifically since I will be traveling alone, and I live in a two story house. Then a light bulb went off. If I am supposed be walking, I could just unpack from the car, taking out just s few things at a time. So for me that is my plan. I live in Texas, and most times there is a gentleman around who will assist with the carousel and the overhead bin.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
