TinyTink 268 Posted November 8, 2015 Hello all. I'm excited to be here. Due to vacation restrictions at work I'm unable to schedule my sleeve until April 2016. That's ok because I have lots of time to read these forums, learn, and lose! I've done a three week fast before so I can't imagine doing the liquids will phase me at all. I'm planning for Dr. Altamirano, flying first class to San Diego. If there is a 10 pound weight limit after surgery, how do you manage your bag at the airport? I would like to at least bring my tablet, if not my laptop, but will still need to check a bag. If I pick it up off the carousel am I going to do some damage? Thanks much. Sharon1964 2,530 Posted November 8, 2015 I would think if you were standing next to someone who looked young and strong, you could say, "could you grab that bag for me please?" Also, if someone were to approach me and say "I just had surgery (or "I'm injured"), could you grab my bag off the carousel?", I would be happy to do it. Make sure it's on wheels. RILEYSMOM22 344 Posted November 8, 2015 I believe there are usually airport personel near the carousels to help with that if needed. I would ask when you check your bag or call the airline and arrange for a meet and assist.
lauraellen80 855 Posted November 8, 2015 I had to fly due to a family emergency before I was cleared to lift over 10 lbs. Like @@Sharon1964 suggested above, I just asked a guy standing nearby at the baggage carousel if he could grab my suitcase for me because I'd just had surgery. I think his reply was something like, "I'd be happy to do it even if you hadn't just had surgery!" I had one of the smaller rolling suitcases with wheels that swivel, so it was easy for me to pull it through the airport.
TinyTink 268 Posted November 8, 2015 Thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to get it in my car and out again once I'm home. And then up the stairs. Sheesh. I may be leaving it in the car for a couple of weeks.
laguerr13 993 Posted November 8, 2015 You should consolidate and pack up only the necessities, 2 pants 2 shirts etc. remember that the hospital and hotel may provide some of you toiletries, and you won't ado same picking up more, also you could utilize any valet services, good luck
RILEYSMOM22 344 Posted November 9, 2015 How are you getting home from the airport? I wasn't technically cleared to drive for 2 weeks (although I did).
TinyTink 268 Posted November 9, 2015 Um......I'll likely be driving myself unless I can arrange for my daughter to help out. Everyone thinks I'm going on vacation and I'm not telling anyone what's really going on. I'm not going to drive if I've taken anything for pain or am even slightly off, but that's my plan at this point.
M!@ 320 Posted November 9, 2015 I too wondered about this issue, specifically since I will be traveling alone, and I live in a two story house. Then a light bulb went off. If I am supposed be walking, I could just unpack from the car, taking out just s few things at a time. So for me that is my plan. I live in Texas, and most times there is a gentleman around who will assist with the carousel and the overhead bin. Mia
