Any one else overly anxious after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I had my surgery on 11/3/15. I got to come home the next day. I must have a very low threshold for pain, as I've been through two c-sections and a rotator cuff repair and never felt pain like this sugery. I do feel better today than day 1 and 2, but I'm constantly freaking out that I've consumed too much of my full liquids and have stretched my pouch or will cause it to leak. Do any of you worry about this? I'm going to have to take my anti-anxiety meds (yuck, another pill). I say this, but have been unable to drink/eat that recommended ounces of liquids. I hear it gets better. I'm new to this forum, so any feedback would be much appreciated.

I worried about this at first, but my dietitian told me my pouch would tell me if I was drinking too much.

It. Gets. Better.

Fluid will not stretch your pouch but being dehydrated will complicate the situation. Not getting enough Protein will keep you from getting stronger, making it harder for you to heal and get back to normal.

The pain will go away a little each day but you are probably feeling gas pain from the air pumped into you during surgery. Something they didn't do during your other surgeries and the only way to expel that gas is to be up walking, walking, walking.

Your anxiety will add to the stress of you what your body is already going through. You need to relax, follow the instructions you were sent home with, stay hydrated, small sips, sips, sips and be up walking.

Don't worry it gets better and better and better!

I am trying really hard to get the Protein in. I've not been able to get it in using the Premiere Protein, so am thinking I need to switch to something else for now. I bought samples prior to surgery, so I will try those. Thank you, for your post. I am up often, but the anxiety followed me into this process, so hopefully I can work through it.

You've been through torn rotator cuff surgery and c-sections. You understand what pain feels like....bigtime.

I think you just have the jitters because of the unknown aspects of this surgery. Understandable. In my case there isn't much noticeable restriction with liquids. I haven't reached actual foods yet, but I'm fully expecting the restriction to show up at this point.

If you have prescribed anti-anxiety meds and feel the need to take them......go for it. Let yourself relax and recover peacefully.

You got this.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I was hoping my anxiety would ease up after the surgery, but it didn't. I do have prescribed meds, and I have been taking them now. It's helping some. Thanks again!!

It's all so new in the beginning, trying to figure your new body out. But as you go along it becomes more second hand and you don't fret over the little things nearly as much. It definitely gets better!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
