seaux_beautiful_vsg 63 Posted November 6, 2015 Did anyone become lactose intolerant AFTER surgery? I've never had an issue with lactose before but I've noticed recently that I've been having diarrhea the past few days and the only thing I can think of that's causing it is the fact that I drink my Protein Shakes first thing in the morning with skim milk.... What else could be causing it?
Sharon1964 2,530 Posted November 6, 2015 What remains of your stomach isn't making enough enzymes to digest milk. Go with almond milk, or lactaid milk for a while. It also happened to me after I had my gallbladder out. That took close to a year to resolve.
Mistie 201 Posted November 6, 2015 My nutritionist said it was a possibility. She also said do not too trying completely, however, or your temporary incompatibility can become permanent - give the tummy a break and try again after a few days/weeks.
Kindle 8,667 Posted November 6, 2015 I became lactose intolerant immediately after surgery. My surgeon explained it's actually quite common. I couldn't tolerate artificial sweeteners or plain Water, either. But all of my intolerances resolved after 4 months.

BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted November 6, 2015 If you use non dairy milks or Water to mix your shakes and still have issues, try using a a vegan based Protein powder such as soy, hemp, pea Protein etc...
wallacefamily04 0 Posted November 7, 2015 Yep I am lactose intolerant too and also found that asparatame was making me really sick. I actually ended up in the hospital for 4 days with dehydration because of how sick the sugar free items were making me. Good luck!
