Beginning my Journey

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I'm new on here, and wanted to introduce myself. I'm in North Carolina, and just like most of you'll on here, I've been battling with my weight for years. I'm ready to beat this battle, and I'm hoping the sleeve will be that tool to help me succeed. I officially will be on my husband's insurance January 1, 2016. He has Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, and his policy does cover bariatric surgery. This is when I will be able to began my process. I've already attended many seminars this year. My family and friends are supportive, and so is my primary care physician. While I patiently wait (not.. lol) I like reading and putting in my research.. regarding bariatric surgery. I also really enjoy listening to other peoples experiences, as well. Is anyone else beginning their journey? I wish everyone the best of luck, and I look forward to hearing your journey.

Addendum on 11/18/15

Height: 5'9

HW: 296

Current Weight as of 11/10/15: 270.5 Lbs (weighed at doctors office)

Health issue: Currently taking medicine for Hypertension.

Best wishes on your journey! Time will go by slowly while you wait and then quickly once you've had surgery. I had my sleeve on August 25th. I started my journey in March and am so glad I did!!

Welcome!! Congrats on deciding to have weight loss surgery. I know for most of us it is and was a hard decision to make.

I know how difficult waiting is. My plan had a six month wait. I tried to stay focused on researching, trying different Protein Shakes, and reading a lot on this forum- which really helped me be prepared for a lot of post op stuff. Reading people's success stories kept me focused.

I had my sleeve surgery on June 23, 2014. My weight was 271. I am now at 145-148. It continually amazes me how life changing this process can be. I have lost weight before in the past, but for some reason this time around utilizing weight loss surgery I feel so much more free. I have a new lease on life and I am so much more adventurous and I am constantly living outside my "box". It's a great feeling.

Stay focused and your turn will be here before you know it!! Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
