What's wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys...

The other day I was taking a shower and collapsed in the tub..I suddenly blacked out, and started shaking. Idk what was wrong. Was it my blood sugar that was low? Blood pressure low? I've tried talking to my doctor about it but never really gave me an answer...has anyone dealt with this before? This isn't the first time that it has happened.

I had a similar problem. The doc gave me fludrocortisone.

I'd be more inclined to press the doctor for a more fitting answer rather than try to get one here...

Especially as it's not the first time...

It could be just about anything...

Just remember that if you're not satisfied with the information your doctor provides, you're able to get a second opinion...

Only your doctor could determine why by running tests. All strangers on the Internet can do is give you possibilities. We cannot diagnose you.

Yes, it could be blood pressure, or dehydration, or number of other things. But, you need to see a physician to get a definite answer. Even the best doctor can only guess without seeing you and talking to you and doing appropriate tests.

FInd a new doctor! That is really scary and you could have been seriously hurt. I cannot believe your doc didn't run any tests. It's probably a simple fix like blood sugar/pressure, but you never know.

All my blood test came back normal..I've tried taking to my primary Doctor and my bariatric Doctor...no answers...I'm not trying to get a diagnosis on here..just trying to see if anyone had a similar experience like this and what they did about it.

Thanks for the responses!

It may be obvious to you, but not to me: What does it mean to "try" to talk to a doctor? YOu already said that you asked one (but not whether it was the surgeon or your primary), but, there, too, I'm not taking for granted what "never really gave me an answer" means.

People are not supposed to black out. It signals something which I'm not qualified to guess. You need to be examined and screened for certain possibilities; again I won't waste your time or mine with guesses. Because the cause may be surgery-related, it's probably appropriate for your primary to begin the process and, if protocol, refer you to a specialist. The primary and the specialist should confer with the surgeon regarding test results and, if it's found that the cause has to do with nutrition or anything that may be affected by it, the surgery should work on making needed changes.

It also looks as though you're overlooking the potential danger of falling in the tub or shower.

My doctor offered to run a million expensive tests but he felt that he problem was a temporary one from having lost so much weight so we decided to try the fludrocortisone. All my labs were good as well.

I take a very small amount. It's like taking a salt pill with a tiny bit of steroids. He considers it a VERY safe drug and it's very inexpensive.

It has helped a ton. Without it I get dizzy if I stand up too fast or get too hot. We decided to try it after I blacked out and hit my head on the floor.

Like the others said. Doctors are the most useful although neither my surgeon nor my internist had ever heard of it. It was the metabolic Doctor that analyzed my labs that suggested it.

Then used to happen to me all the time early on... I simply started keeping the bathroom door open and the shower door open so that some air can get in the bathroom while I showered and took shorter showers to keep this from happening. And that worked for me. My surgeon eventually told me my blood pressure was probably too low during those times. Never could explain to why during my showers tho. But, that hasnt happened to me in almost 2 months now. Im 5 months out now. Anit feels go to be able to take long showers again.????

I think it has something to do with the heat. That's why there advisory signs about having your doc's advice before using a sauna/steam room. It wouldn't hurt to buy a shower chair to sit down jic!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
